$59.99 on Sierra in eggplant & black. Not sure if there's a way to get free shipping without hitting $89.

Nope.

Synthetic fabrics are more durable than wool. Synthetic fabric is often mixed with wool fabric for longevity reasons (as well as cost savings). Keep in mind wool pills as it age. I'm not saying blend is the way to go, but there is a reason for blending fabrics. It's the same reason it's tough to find 100% wool socks - it's almost always blended for durability.

"Adding polyester or nylon to Merino significantly increases durability and reduces stretching/sag after several days of use."

This is easily verifiable by simply asking Google. Marino wool is not particularly durable. Stop embarrassing yourself with your ignorance.

I bought a pair of smartwool pants last time I was at sierra. When I got home and read the care instructions, it was wash on delicate and lay flat to dry. I knew that they would get mixed in so I returned them.

Smartwool makes some great stuff but you always have to look at the wool content. Anyone that thinks they're adding 40% polyester for durability is a full on retard. Now these mfrs are getting tricky with descriptions like wth is: 88% nylon, 12% elastane (front body, pocket), 53% merino wool, 21% polyester, 21% lyocell, 5% elastane (body, sleeve, collar). Calling that wool is like calling Velveeta cheese.

I bought this in another color a while back.
Very snug fit, as others have said. I bought it for running, so that's fine.
I am a little disappointed by the quality. It looks and feels very nice, but it picked up visible snags and loose threads immediately--like one wearing, not washed. I'd have been outraged if I'd paid full price.
It is nice enough to run in that it's an okay deal at this price, to me.

Yes it does. Merino wool alone is extreme fragile. Ever worn a super 150? Feels like silk, snags on a freaking hang nail.

100% wool will always be better than plastic synthetics, learn a thing or two.
100% merino wool from icebreaker - 3 holes in different places after ~ 5 wash cycles. 60wool/40poly blend - no issues after 2 years and over 100 washes.

Merino is great, but u need to be ready for cold water "delicate" mode and no dryer. I'm personally not ready for that and don't buy 100% wool anymore (unless it's an underwear)

My experience with Smartwool Intraknit is that you want to size up due to the very athletic fit. I'm a big fan of the intraknit as the insulation is in the right spots and there is extra ventilation compared with the typical smart wool making it great for active outdoor activities (cutting wood, running, cross country skiing). In for 2 XXL Black and 2 XXL Egplant from Sierra.
Was thinking of getting a XXL but whew, that model has it looking VERY snug on him

A lot of people knocking this for being blended material and skin tight. Adding synthetic fiber not only increases durability but also increases moisture wicking ability. This is the primary function of baselayers like this, to keep you feeling warmer by wicking moisture away from your skin so the molecules don't sit up against your skin freezing.

Yeah, it's just not even possible that the culmination of countless years of materials science research could ever improve upon hair in terms of durability or performance. That's why bullet-proof vests are made of merino wool.
