For people subscribing for the first time, I'd recommend signing up as soon as the discount is live so that next year there's not much overlay in your subscription expiring and the discount going live again, and if you don't auto renew this year's sub you'd most likely be able to grab the discount next year too.

So no discount on renewals/extensions for existing subscribers, just "upgrades". Eff that.

Ugh Sony did this last time, too. While it's great new customers get subscription discounts, it would be great if the loyal (current) subscribers would get either a better percentage or a percentage off their current subscription tier instead of requiring an upgrade.

I don't want to upgrade my tier, I'm fine with essentials. Please don't require current subscribers to upgrade their tier to get any sort of deal. I hate this tactic.

Can I just create a new account to take advantage of the 30% off for new subscribers?

Does this work if you previously had PS Plus but canceled? I assume not.

You could, but you would lose all your game saves, trophies, friends, etc.

Agreed. I'm actively looking forward to my sub ending and being done with this overly expensive service.

I let mine expire and haven't missed it yet. If it comes around for $26 like the old days I'll buy back in. For a (now-priced) $80 Essentials year, I can buy at least four used games I actually want instead of hoping for something decent to come up as a "free" monthly game, and at least two will still be on my queue pile at the end of the year.

Technically when you set the second account to use that machine as their primary device, all users of that machine have access to the Plus benefits including MP access.
Sure all the games are "owned" by the other account but anything you download is playable by all.

And even if something comes up, it's gone when the sub expires unlike Xbox360, where it was yours to keep "forever".

Annoying, I've had PS Plus since it launched on PS3, so my library of games is over 400 now, and thats only getting ones I have at least some interest in, not ever single game every month. They kind of have me locked in to keep all those. I guess thats why no deals for returning subscribers??? Ugh...
I used to pay ~$25 or so a year for this finding discount cards.
