I don't quite get the point of these DC-DC chargers... for much less money you can have a much more versatile setup with a simple 12V-110V inverter and use AC charging from the Ecoflow/Bluetti, with several added benefits: it allows arbitrary control of charging wattage (from the Ecoflow/Bluetti); easier to redirect power using cheap house extension cords (to trunk, truck bed, etc); also 110V can power many other stuff. I don't know about others, but I am very happy with my inverter setup this way.

DC to DC charging protects old dumb alternators.

With your setup you're losing converting to DC to AC to DC

I did put a 60A breaker on the 12V line so alternators don't get shorted by accident, and the breaker is recommended by DC-DC setup as well. The 12-110v inverters also have overload protections, so I don't think the alternators would be harmed in any way.
As for the conversion loss... nowadays inverters have less than 10% loss, so combined no more than 20% loss. Even at 1000W charging it's no more than 200W of loss, negligible for a running engine.

In addition to the person who already responded to this with conversion loss being a factor:
- Many battery/inverter units will only take pure sine wave AC input. Most 12V inverters for cars do not output pure sine wave
- A typical AC inverter working on a cigarette socket will only provide up to ~100W output
- Ecoflow's alternator charger supports reverse charging. Not only can it pull power from 12-24V (up to ~30V) DC sources like cheaper LFP batteries, it can charge them, too

I have another DC-DC converter from Victron (12 to 24-30V) that can pull power from an alterator, but it's only one-way, and can't output as much to a Delta 2 as EF's alt charger can (~420W at best).

Honest question What's the plus buying from Eco flow vs bluetti if it's the same price and free shipping too?

Save your money to the better bi-directional alternator charger that works on all power station (Bluetti, Ecoflow, Pecron etc.)

Interesting unit, but how exactly does one 'save money' by spending $150 more than this deal @ $350 'on sale'? lmao

  • If you are trying to purchase the Bluetti one, you're not saving as well because you can always get any 12v to 48v dc converter for a fraction. For example this or similar one. [amazon.com]
  • If you are trying to purchase the Ecoflow, they are similar in price but the eTaker is universal for all power station. Not to mention, 800w vs 1800w output. Not even close. The eTaker can charge bare batteries too like 12v, 24v, 36v and 48v system not just a power station. App adjustable like the video says.

Again, the feature and specs are not even close. You only have one shot of buying this kind of equipment, then buy the right one. I am just sharing because this eTaker caught my attention and I am getting one before tariff bombs. It's really perfect for RV because of the bi-directional charging.
