Just a heads up. Best Buy will install this (front + back cameras) for $99. The dash cam can be purchased anywhere, it doesn't have to be from Best Buy.
Got a new model for my car, DroneXC. Dash cam that live streams the video to my cell phone via 5G. So if the alarm goes off, it alerts me and I can pull up live video. The video is also automatically stored in the cloud. So if the entire car is stolen or they steal the dash cam, you'll still have the footage. Tracks the car via GPS too.
Ordered the A119. Lowest price ever. Thanks iconian! Just in time as a friend just bought a new car. I've been using 1080P dash cams from Aukey and Yi in the $40-$50 range purchased in 2019 and they've worked flawlessly. Police officer ruled in my favor and wrote up the report favorably for a rear-end collision. I didn't even have a rear dash cam module, but he noticed the impact in the front-facing model I had. In another car, the police officer saw footage of two cars displaying road rage. One of the cars side-swiped my car and the police immediately ruled in my favor and wrote up reckless driving tickets for the two idiots. Every once in a while, check the camera to see that it's working, and reformat the MicroSD card once a month, and you'll be good to go. The dash cam market has caught on its popularity and they have jacked up their prices. A $40-$50 model will work just as well as a $200 model. You're paying for bells and whistles for the $200+ models in my humble opinion. The only reason why I spent more for the A119 is my friend wanted the name brand at the lowest price.
Having had one dash cam in my car that had a "super capacitor" in it for "durability" but yet ultimately failed; I'm hesitant to keep my dash cam on the windshield during the summer.
Anyone have a good mount that is easy to release/install the dash cam?
The high cabin heat must be killing dash cams because I'm not the only one who has had this issue. I have security cameras installed outside that have never failed. The difference is that they are experiencing 120+ degrees like the dash cams will.
My last one died but my current one is still going strongfor over 3 years in direct sunlight and never removed here in West Texas

What model are most going for? Is 4K really worth 70 more over 2k? Not sure how much difference in real life it makes - is it easier to read plates?
Reading plates is more of a function of FPS and shutter speed - 4K vs 2K will not be very different. Ideally shutter speed of twice the speed the vehicle is traveling at and FPS of 120 would be the minimum required to capture number plates of vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. Slightly less for vehicles traveling in the same direction. None of the dash cams advertise shutter speed of their electronic shutters

Are these made in China? Privacy concerns of driving data housed in Chinese Cloud? Assuming Chinese will be able to access driving patterns/routine, voice recordings and home footage of the outside of one's house...
Edit: While we are at it, why not help nation states build detailed maps with images of our neighborhoods . (Go for thumbs down if you want to - lol)
Data is stored on the SD cards. It could theoretically be communicating with servers when you're using the app but you can just not use the app if you're worried.

Only if people would use it with only SD card as backup. Does the camera require setting up through app or having an account with Viofo? My question is only for encouraging others to think about privacy concerns in their daily usage - its a free country so people can make their own decisions.
Is this true that hardwire uses less battery than the cigarette plug?
The dashcam will draw the same amount of power regardless of where it is coming from. It will work the same as long as the source can provide sufficient power.

Omg yes I just saw this I reached out to VIOFO they asked me to send in this model and instead they gave me 2 A119 mini 2. I would rather have it record on 2 separate SD cards then one. Watch this video he does a great job explaining why you should have two separate of one recording both front and back
Thanks, ordered the A229 Pro model with the rear camera. I had a cheaper camera before that wasn't recording continiously for some reason. Even with a replaced SD card.

No to both. Never used the app and don't have an account.

If you care about 4k/2k resolution and 30fps/60fps mode
A229 pro Video resolution mode
front camera / rear camera
2160P 30fps /1440P 30fps
1440P 30fps /1440P 30fps
1080P 30fps / 1080P 30fps
A229 plus Video mode
front camera / rear camera
1440P 60fps (no HDR) / 1440P 30fps
1440P 30fps (HDR) / 1440P 30fps
1080P 30fps / 1080P 30fps
With above data from viofo.com, a229 pro front camera doesn't support 60fps in any resolution. You want 4k 60fps buy A329.
On my research, people can set schedule for a229 plus front camera in 1440p 60fps w/o HDR during daytime and 1440P 30fps w HDR on night time
Edit: Typo

I use 2 of the minis, 1 front and back. Avoids the need to run wire back there and gives you 2k in the rear. Just need to have a power source back there
