Got my Paperwhite two years ago for $60. Signature edition not worth the price increase imo. Wireless charging is such a gimmick for a device that only needs charging once every few weeks. Larger storage is not a necessity when books require so little storage space.
It's a good device to be sure, but not something I'd drop more than ~$80 on.

Don't forget the 20% off ($31.00) if you trade in an eligible device (and most get $20-$30 for trade-in). WARNING though - if you already did a trade-in this quarter on your account, they won't give you the 20% off coupon as I tried and got a note that I was limited to one trade-in promotion per quarter.

Because people keep paying that much for them.

Placed an order trading in my 8gb Paperwhite for $30 + 20% off.
I love the color version but the reviews are not that impressive, so I'll wait for the next version while I'm enjoying my new gen 12 Paperwhite for a few years.

My wife loves hers from last year. Paid $140 on 11/24/23 - $28 for kindle trade-in.

She gave her old PW 2 to our son. Still going strong!

Dumb question, but what are the main differences btwn the Signature and regular Paperwhite?
It is just wireless charging and more storage?

Unfortunately trade-ins don't stack with Amex rewards offer Frown

the Signature doesn't have ads. Cost to remove ads is $20. So it pays for itself. The regular ppw is $130. also the back of the Signature is metallic black while the regular is like last year. 32gb, wireless charging, auto brightness. I think it's worth it.

Signature, however, IS worth the price increase right now if you're doing a trade-in and don't want ads. It's only a $25 difference between that and the base Paperwhite, of which 20% ($5) gets knocked off due to the trade-in discount. So, that leaves you with a $20 difference, which is exactly the price of removing ads (and the Signature comes without them).

Is there a big difference between the Paperwhite and regular Kindle these days? I need to get my partner one, but she doesn't read much so I'm thinking the cheaper one.

Why are Samsung phones over $1,000? It's the name that sells and I'm sure this is a good product

Yes. Screen is much brighter, better contrast. Makes reading for older eyes enjoyable again.

One thing to watch out for if you have an expensive (ex. cork) or particular cover you like - this new Paperwhite is slightly bigger so requires buying a new cover.

I really like the wireless charging, but to be fair, only charge like 5 times a year. The extra storage is great but I never approach even half the storage capacity. I also like the auto adjusting front light.

As far as comparison to regular Kindle other than the above....the Paperwhite has a better battery and is fully waterproof and is slightly larger (and heavier) and has some warmth adjustments that make it feel more "papery" IMO.

I'm a huge samsung person. I'm just seeing if there is not a reason I should throw this money at a tablet, I guess it is a convenience oriented single use, quality derived purchase.
