1. USB A is disappearing from most portable devices. USB C is becoming the standard.
2. It is too thick for some USB ports, and a few reviews points this out.
3. thumb drive format can pick up heat from the machine its connected. Not great for longevity and performance.

It should work great. It's like a thumb drive, but with much faster speeds.

Well I don't think iphone has a usb-a port for one thing.

maybe get a USB C drive or maybe a converter will work, would have to google that one.

Does it get hot? What is the TBW?

Found out that this does not support TRIM and only has 400TBW endurance.

Why would carrying an extra piece of easily misplaced cable be a better option? Plus it's more expensive than the one in this post. Is it aesthetically more pleasing?

Caution on ordering as I got the Beatle shipped instead of the Tube version yesterday.

I bought one for PC and it worked well. Tempted to buy another one to use in 2024 Tesla Model Y. Debating between this SK T31 and Samsung T7 Shield. This one is smaller to PnP. T7 is bigger but feels better quality? Will appreciate some advice.

I ordered it yesterday, and it just arrived. The drive is legit. TRIM is supported. On Linux you may need to run following to get it active:

Code:
echo 'ACTION=="add|change", ATTRS{idVendor}=="152e", ATTRS{idProduct}=="7003", SUBSYSTEM=="scsi_disk", ATTR{provisioning_mode}="unmap"' \
    > /etc/udev/rules.d/50-skhynix-tube-t31.rules
udevadm trigger

Cool, so I only run that once in the command line and it becomes permanent? Would it get hot after using it as a boot drive in the long term? Would that affect its lifespan? I'm concerned about the high amount of writes and the sustained heat. Did you notice yours getting hot and outgassing "toxic" chemicals since it's made of plastic as complained by one reviewer?

The Samsung is significantly larger, $40 more, and requires an additional cable. Beyond that, I will not buy Samsung products anymore, as just about every single one I have bought/used (SSDs, phones/tablets, TVs, appliances) has been garbage in one way or another. SK hynix, OTOH, makes great products that are very well-reviewed, and I've had no issues with my 1TB and 2TB P31 Gold SSDs. Considering this is likely a 2242 M.2, or perhaps even a custom-sized SSD, in a custom-molded case, this is a ridiculously good deal, since even off-brand 2242 SSDs on their own cost more than this, not to mention then needing to get a case for them which will be larger. I currently have my P31 1TB in an enclosure that's probably close to twice the size of this and requires a USB cable. While that is sometimes preferred, I generally like to be able to just plug it straight in, i.e. in this traditional thumb drive form. It's really personal preference as far as that goes. But I would generally get SK hynix over any other brand if the price is even in the same ballpark.
