Not worth it… the gimmicks don't work well. My kids weren't fans.

So the complaint for this thing is the karts fall off the track

After the battery wears down a little they won't make a full circuit, this can be solved by removing the coins and the finish line parts (makes it easier to complete a lap (you can make it even smaller if you want)

It's strange how Hot Wheels used to include these boosters all the time, but now it seems to be the opposite. What is gimmicky about this? Do the cars constantly fly off the tracks?

I don't know if we got a dud track, but I've been disappointed with this track from the start. It feels like every aspect of the track has issues:
- The green shell flippers do a poor job of actually inhibiting the vehicles.
- Karts get tripped up coming down the track from the side with the tower.
- Karts are slowed down by the finish line and the launch zone causing them to drop off around the billboard side curve.

There is a lot of trial and error with the track, which can cause frustration. Karts seem to fair better in different lanes sometimes orienting them backwards proves to be optimal. Very few karts are able to make it around more than once. Tweaking the track layout can improve the experience, but having to do that shouldn't be required.

Rainbow Road is a lot more enjoyable in my opinion (albeit significantly more expensive and larger). Gravity being the primary mechanism proves to be a better experience.
