As someone who was in the market for bookshelf speakers several months ago, this is the lowest to get them new. If you favor hi-fi sound over the flatness of studio monitors, this is a good deal.
These speakers are slow to change input and bass heavy. If using for home theatre you will struggle for dialog clarity but the sound effects and bass will wow you. If you like that kind of uncontrolled sound, go for it. The app is slow and clunky too.

Doesn't the equalizer help with that?

No. In addition to difficult dialogue, I also can barely hear soft background music in shows or movies

No they are not good. Like the other person said it's clunky too much base that you can't hear the lyrics. Updating firmware is a pain. It looks good I would give it that.

Wouldn't recommend for HiFi music. Heck KEFs with an Amp would sound far better.

I've read that pulling them away from the wall and/or inserting foam into the port corrects this, and room correction software would do the same

These plate amps scare me. They never seem to last in subwoofers because of their inherent design of zero ventilation and heat failures to the board. And when it does die, you're left with a pair of passive bookshelf speakers that need a separate power source.
Then you have the buggy firmware debacle. Read some of the 1 star reviews on Amazon.

As the other people mentioned these are not good for dialog. These are good for music. I always had to switch to TV for hearing the dialogs

Tried lot of things, nothin works. The dialogs are lost. If you google, these speakers have this problem.

I have this set for casual music listening and I adore them. They have an incredible sound and the dedicated remote is a nice touch. Pair them with a Chromecast Audio and it will fill a decent sized room with high quality audio with ease. This set has been around for a long time and is a proven platform.

I would highly recommend.

I've read that adding a subwoofer to the subwoofer output activates a crossover that diverts all the bass and sub bass away from the 5" speakers and gives them more power to just handle the mids and treble, giving them better clarity. I did read a lot that it's a pain to upgrade the software, but well worth it for better eq options. That's coming from well known audiophiles I follow. I've been along time Klipsch fan and have had my KG 5.2's for nearly 30 years and they still wow me. The ones saying they aren't good for home theater aren't using them in a way they were designed for. There's very few tv's that can recreate a phantom center channel, plus they weren't designed for multichannel audio. I'm wondering if there tv's aren't down converting the multichannel audio to a stereo signal. These are designed for 2.0/2.1 listening. I've been waiting for these to go back on sale for the $399, but I'm also waiting to see if Accessories4less is going to have a Black Friday special on The Sevens, or The Nines. They still have refurbished The Nines McLaren editions (I love the gold tweeter, but hate the graphics on the cabinets). Klipsch in general seem to be an either love it or hate it line of speakers. I happen to love the Klipsch sound and dynamics. I want these, or The Sevens, or The Nines for my bedroom hifi music streaming. I'm thinking of getting the Wiim Ultra to complete the system.

A rating of 4.3 on Amazon really means a 3/10. I try to look at ratings that way and it helps avoid a poorly designed product.

Spend 400 for a broken product that maybe a lot of effort can fix?
