One benefit of having these offers posted a week in advance (which is what Epic's store does), is that it allows SD members two full weeks (~half a month) to see that a given title is or is going to be free. Some people might have thought about purchasing, say - Brotato, or had it on a wishlist waiting for a deep enough sale; and now they know it will be free.
Unless a person is new to hearing about Epic Games' freebie program (and those folks do exist), many people who have participated in grabbing these ongoing offers for years understand that at any given time during any given week, they can pop by SD (or Epic Games store itself) and find a game or two that are actively free from Epic, plus see what the next freebie will be since they post both side-by-side on their website. Therefore, even if an upcoming freebie is posted in advance here (as Epic does themselves), people are guaranteed that they will always be able to find a free game or two to claim every week. When a person visits Epic Games' store to claim the currently free titles, a heads up about next week's offering(s) is always there (unless they're doing the Mystery giveaway thing they sometimes do). Either way, it's possible for people to get advance notice of an upcoming title whether they learn about it a week advance here or they're just swinging by Epic's store to pick up the currently active freebies.
For upcoming freebies, people have from the Thursday they are posted here and every day until the next Thursday to visit either SD or Epic (or other sites that may announce what the next Epic Games freebie will be) to learn what the next giveaway is going to be: because Epic Games posts this info on their own site for a week. Then, once it finally goes live, people have from one Thursday and every day for the next week until the following Thursday to snag the most current freebie, plus get a head's up on what the next free title will be the following Thursday, all in one trip to SD and/or the Epic Games Store. As far as I've seen, when people post these upcoming offers, they are sure to included in the title (and oft times, body of the post as well) what day it's supposed to be active, so that people are aware upfront before clicking that it is not yet an active offer/what day to expect it to go live.
Some have mentioned in past posts that if these are posted early every Thursday, then people forget to come back here or go to the Epic Games store to claim them; but the fortunate aspect is these are generally not a limited time single-day offering and if one should forget to claim them the Thursday these go live, they can hopefully recall to at some point on Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, etc. (until the next Thursday) to swing by either here or Epic Games itself to add the current freebie to their library. We tend to Frontpage these offers the Thursday they go live, as well (so that's a heads up to members as well). They then remain active as a Frontpage Deal for the entire duration of the week; then we bump it back to the top of the Frontpage again on the Wednesday before they expire (so people can be reminded once more to grab it before it's gone). This week's example being Beholder (here). It's a tough subject with a number of perspectives on how to handle it, so we do the best we can with it. Hope that helps / all made sense Thanks everyone.
