This is a good price, I bought mine for 180.
However I have a lot of problems with the wifi. The range is ok, but wifi disconnects are frequent, and often cuts out during meetings...

Can you give a bunch more details?
Did you switch to Merlin or use stock?
Does it overheat?
Number of active connections?

I brought it a month ago, and installed Merlin firmware, I do not have any issue so far.

I have had this running an ai mesh setup and it's been solid for a year+. Haven't even had to restart it. I don't think Asus is best at switching between the satellite and main, but it's nice to have a real routers setup. Both routers have Merlin installed.

Is Merlin that much better than stock asus firmware for performance/wifi disconnects? I still have it at stock.

Do I have to trade in a router specifically if I am buying a router? The details page is a bit vague on this point.

How does this router compare to TUF-AX6000 [asus.com] for $149.99 on Asus and Microcenter website?

I've been having the same problems, but using a wifi scanner app, I changed the channel to a less crowded one and it's been rock solid.

Great deal to finally spring for the asus 86u pro. Went in today with a 20 year old dsl router (I've been hanging on to well too long) for a nice little extra discount.
Thanks op

I think the ax6000 is better...newer and also supports Merlin. Was looking at the same one...

The TUF-AX6000 is not supported by Merlin, the GT-AX6000 (ROG) is. Despite the similar model names, the TUF-AX6000 uses a Mediatek SoC that is not supported by Merlin. The GT-AX6000 uses a Broadcom SoC.

The AX5700 (aka RT-AX86U Pro) is supported by Merlin.

Personally, I'd buy the AX5700. I have the older RT-AX86U and the Merlin firmware is super stable for me on that device.
