I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

4a5G gets $400 off $800 MSRP. IDC about the unlimited storage since my primary is IP15 with iCloud. Not sure if its worth it... but worried this will be the last time the Pixel 4 series have any trade in value (especially for Simple Choice).
Anyone think the pixel 9 worth getting as a secondary phone for $400?
No, I think you should go buy a phone to trade in for $100-$150, and pay a total of about $200 after tax and fees for a new pixel 9.

Thanks, it didn't initially work while trying to place the order online. But after your message, I tried from the TMobile App and worked. I traded in Samsung Note 10 for Pixel 9 Pro, got $800 off and was able to place the order.
Thank You for your post.

Yea but then I would have an extra phone, which i dont need. My rational is paying $400 + tax now, but then i can use casually but extend the trade in value for 4+ years down the line.

Think about what you're saying.

Option 1: spend $200ish now (buying a phone to trade for $100-$150 + tax and fees) and get a Pixel 9 and also still have your Pixel 4a.
Option 2: spend $500ish now ($400 + tax and fees) and get a Pixel 9...and get to feel like you got some value for your 4a?

It makes no mathematical sense to trade your 4a. Literally the only thing that does is make you feel like you got some value out of trading it. But as outlined above...you actually got negative $300 in value out of trading it compared to trading a different $100 phone for $800. You're far better off doing option 1...even if the next step is to throw your 4a in the trash. If your 4a is in decent condition, you should be able to sell it in any number of places for about $100, and now it only cost you about $100 net to upgrade, which an insanely good deal.

The trade-in values the Google store is offering on the Pixel 7 are too good to pass up if you want to stay on a MVNO.
How much are you seeing? I just checked and it's showing just $360 for trade in.

That's nonsense. You are literally signing a contract when you order. Offer and acceptance. They can't legitimately say "oops, just kidding...you have the wrong plan" later on after you've already bought a new phone. Spoiler alert: CSR reps sometimes say nonsensical things. They likely don't know any better than anyone else what is going on.
I agree. How could they do that? Doesn't make sense but it's a bother.

I was trying to complete this deal on my essentials 55+ plan with s10 trade-in and going to checkout and the page was just spinning and not responding. Now the website has removed my trade-in and it looks like they changed the plans that this works for.

Edit...only giving me $25 for s10 trade-in now on my 55+ plan.

Yeah I'm screen capturing every screen as I'm going through the ordering process in the app, that shows the promotion. It's not the customer's fault if their app allows you to order saying the promotion is valid for your legacy plan, but the screenshots will help in any case

I want to go to Costco to see if I can do the ordering there for the $35 DCC fee waiver & $75 GC but someone mentioned simple choice plan is not eligible in their system. Can someone who has a SC plan confirm they are able to do it? Trying to save me a trip, if it can't be done there I'll do the app

Really? Well if legacy plans aren't eligible, then this will save us legacy plan folks a headache when they say we're not eligible after the trade in.

Again, this is scare tactics. Maybe they didn't mean for certain plans to be eligible, and until you order and they ship the phone, they could certainly change the trade in value or just refuse to ship your order, but once you order and they send you the phone, they can't change anything after that. I also have screenshots showing the $800 promo value, and I already have a text from t-mo (again, I'm on a Magenta plan) saying "line xxxxxxxx will be enrolled for a total of 800.00 as long as eligibility is maintained". I have done so many phone deals over the years and dealt with all manner of shenanigans on the part of various carriers, but spelling out a trade in value at the time of an order and then saying "sorry, not that plan" later has never happened, nor have I heard of it happening to anyone else.

I did it in the T-Life app and the $35 fee also got waived. Looks like I only have to pay tax. Simple choice plan also. Thanks!
