I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

You can take your trade in to a T-Mobile store but I think it has to be a Corp store, not 100% sure on that one. I've done 2 or 3 mail in trade ins with T-Mobile over the years and not had any problems with them. Make sure to take pictures of the all sides of the phone to prove the condition of it, a short video of the phone booting and then a pic of the IMEI is probably a good idea as well. Then make sure you package the phone well and you should be fine.
Yes, has to be a Corporate store. I confirmed this yesterday. Authorized Dealer/Retailer is a no go.

They won't take it with cracks on the back, I watched someone try to trade in an iPhone 6s a once while I was at the TMo store and they got all the way down to it and the rep noticed a tiny sliver of a crack on the rear camera that didn't affect picture taking and turned the guy down for the trade-in. It's questionable if they'd take it with a black spot or screen burn in, I'd say probably not.

Thanks for your reply. I was asking because on their terms they only state the following:
#1 The device stays powered on
#2 The screen on my device is free of cracks (scratches and scuffs are acceptable)
#3 The device has never been damaged by liquid or moisture

Seems you are missing the Trade in device and the order overview. The order overview has the Pixel 9 listed and under that the trade in device. Next column would be the promotional ID240577 is what I have which is the $800 off with trade.
Yes, I am missing those documents (Trade In Device, Overview).

Having said that, I woke up this morning to a text on my phone stating:
"T-Mobile promo message: Line XXXX is scheduled to receive a monthly bill credit for Smartphone Trade ID240577 as long as you maintain eligibility."

I think(?) I am less concerned now that I have that text message (well, so long as my receiving documents titled "Trade In Device" and "Overview" are not requirements for me to "maintain eligibility").

I will stop by T-Mobile corporate store later today, and see if they can confirm my credit (and I will take a picture of their confirmation screen).

Black spots = screen damage, so that's a no go. I've successfully traded in before an ebay phone which was listed as a B grade burn in screen. Crack back glass is technically acceptable.

At the end of the day, you are going to be dealing with a person. The more damaged the phone, the more likely they are going to push back and reject it. You can argue the rules but is it really worth your time vs getting a $120 trade-in phone off ebay?

No need to activate. They will unlock only paid off device. For that to happen it will be 24 months.
Got a quick question if you don't mind me asking.
I have a spare 8, traded it for the 9 for future trade in purpose. Since I get the full $800 in the form of credit, so that means technically the phone is paid off from the get go. Can I ask to get it unlocked from day 1 or after 40 days?

Is it possible to purchase the trade-in device after placing the order for the Pixel 9? Or does the checkout process require the IMEI of the trade-in device, meaning we would need to have the device in hand or obtain the IMEI from the seller beforehand?
You have to have the latter in order to get on this deal. Must have IMEI in hand

$800 credit is not one time. It will be spread over 24months. So it is not paid off.

You can still try though, if you get a nice rep, they might help you unlock.

Here in Los Angeles, I went to two different stores to give my S9 and I was told "their machine" to print labels is down and they are not accepting old phones right now. I have a feeling they don't want to take it.

They're pretty strict about it in my experience, I've seen them do it with a few months left on the bill credits but after 40 days when there are 22-23 months left of bill credits would be a long shot, but the worst thing that can happen is they tell you no. Lol.

Anyone able to get it through Costco over the phone? Just called and they said it's web only, so can only do it on the T-Mobile app or website . Any tips?
