I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

After reading some website about resetting Android phone for resell or trade-in, there are some information about disabling Factory Reset Protection (FRP) that should be done also.

Here's some information I found.....

https://www.androidcentral.com/fa...-need-know

If your phone has an extra layer of reset protection from the company who built it or has a "find my phone" app from the company who built it, you'll want to disable that manually first.

There may be a few devices still in use that require a bit more hands-on work. If your phone is really old, you might need to remove the accounts that are signed in manually:
  • Open your device settings and remove any security you have for the lock screen. This isn't a required step for all phones, but some want you to do this, so we're including it here.
  • Once that's done, you need to remove any and all Google Accounts from the phone or tablet. That's also done in the settings — look for a section labeled Accounts. With an account selected, look for a delete or remove option, usually hidden behind the three little dots in the top corner of the screen.
  • When you've made sure all of the Google accounts have been erased, you can then factory reset your phone or tablet through the device settings.
On modern Android phones, there shouldn't be any problems as long as you choose to factory reset your phone through its settings. This will automatically remove all the associated accounts in a way that "frees" the phone from FRP. If you try to reset a phone through the bootloader, FRP will kick in, and it can't be set back up without the previous account's password.

You can make sure any reset protection has been removed from a phone you want to find a new owner for. Just try to sign back into it after you've reset it.

If it asks for the previous username and password, FRP is still enabled. If it doesn't, you're good to go: power it off and box it up!

Can I get this deal on a Simple choice plan? Do I need to provide trade in device IMEI number, because I am planning to order a mobile from eBay to trade in which may take few days to deliver? Thanks.

The system will prompt you to provide the IMEI of your trade-in device when placing the order. However, the IMEI itself doesn't need to match as long as the phone you ultimately trade in matches the description you provided during the order process (make, model, color, and storage).

I went to experience location. They took 3 phones just fine. Once had a black spot on the screen 1/3 of an inch. Another one had no white color just pink and burnt keyboard on the screen, 3rd was locked to Verizon. All no cracks though. The 4th one , had deep scratches on the screen but she said it's not a problem, clean imei BUT she could not get it thru the system and the system didn't tell her what is wrong. She called a manager and he also could not figure out why the system doesn't take. They suggested maybe there is a limit on how many phones the store can accept and said I should ship it and it should be OK. Now I'm all nervous , what if it will not be accepted and it will be too late to return pixel 9. Anybody had similar issue?
Can you take it to another corporate or experience store?

Would like to know as well, but I might end up going changing to the $400 tier because I'm trying to get rid of a phone, then sell the other one which I was planning on sending in.
Support confirmed that changing IMEI is not an issue. According to multiple reports I've seen on Reddit, changing phone model is also not an issue as long as it qualifies for the same trade-in value. Cannot personally confirm that though.

Haven't done it recently but in the past this has been true as I have done it before. I change the trade in phone from an iphone to a galaxy. When they receive it they will tell you the trade in doesn't match and do a reevaluation but it works out at the end. Maybe just a different fair market value for trade in device but the promo is still the same.

The smaller Pixel 9 Pro 256gb has dropped $100 price as of 12/1/24 so the price is now $999 (from $1099).
This may be an option for those that prefer a smaller size phone but with the bells and whistles of Pro line up.

It's good for people who are on grandfathered plans and rarely get phone deals . We hold on to such plans because they are cheap compared to the new plans out there. Also the old plans have no rate change for life. I am not sure signing up for this will change that agreement. I think I am wrong since it's not a new line or a plan change.

True. Ive got a plan that migrated from Sprint - $55/month, unlimited everything, and an additional free line. No way Id do an upgrade if forced into their massively overpriced Magenta plans.

Can you provide more detail about the "use adb to stop some services/processes in the background"? I followed your directions, and did not connect to internet at all, but the "OEM Unlock" button in Developer Options is still greyed out.

I would love to unlock bootloader and get GrapheneOS running on this phone (can only happen with unlocked bootloader).

Thanks in advance.
Did you see the screen that asked you to register/activate T-Mobile eSIM during first boot?
