This includes AppleCare for 2 years, so keep that in mind when making comparisons.
Last time I checked, the price at Amazon was $160 plus $27 for AppleCare. So $187, about the same as Costco, if you want AppleCare. Minus any Amazon cashback if that applies (prime card or Discover). But some people may prefer the Costco return policy.

Not trying to bring down your point, and I actually thought the same thing as you. However, later I was thinking that the drawback here is that Applecare will not work if the Airpods is lost. And with Costco return policy, do we really need Applecare?
Glad I picked up the $160 deal at Best Buy. This one sucks. I mean I guess it's technically the same but I'd rather pickup a case than AppleCare. Chances are higher to lose the earbuds than them breaking..

For my usage (3–6 hrs/day), AppleCare+ for AirPods is worth it. I've had to use it twice over the years, so $29 is a small price for peace of mind that I'm only a day or two away from a replacement if they have an issue.
As for losing them, I'm disciplined about keeping the case with me, so my AirPods are always either in my ears or in their case, trackable via Find My.

That's what I thought too but that has not been my experience so far. I've gone through a pair of Airpods and Airpods pros and they both failed without getting lost. Each pair lasted about a year. The Airpods got destroyed in the laundry and I dropped an airpod pro bud onto concrete which caused it to no longer function correctly. This time I wised up and got Applecare+, which of course means I'm going to inevitably lose this pair lol.
