There is no protection from cold with the thin plastic construction. Buy a doghouse on offer up if you can not afford a new one that will give your animal some protection. If you are looking to be that cheap maybe a live pet tobrake care of isn't for you. What will you do when it is time for just routine vet visits let alone a emergency?

This. These totes might look very similar to the Costco Greenmade ones but they are not the same. Not the same dimensions so they don't interchangeably stack nicely, and the HDX versions use an inferior resin so they crack or break easier. Greenmade regularly goes on sale for $7.98 at Costco and the regular price is $8.98 plus you can return them basically forever.

How many wide?

I'm renovating part of our basement and got an Edsal rack from Costco (I have 5 of them already) - configured properly you could store 15 of the Costco Greenmade bins on it (3/shelf * 4 shelves + floor) and still have space on each shelf for some small stuff. The Edsal is $200.

That's because clear totes are polypropylene. High density polyethylene is at best translucent (think milk jug). Problem is polypropylene isn't as ductile, ESPECIALLY at colder temps and over time.

Years ago I got a deal on some PP totes from Lowes after the holidays. We were about to move at the time and they were cheaper than cardboard so it was a no brainer. I had like 100 of the things but over time I'm down to 1 as they break and fall apart.

Greenmade makes them seemingly just as strong as the black ones from Office Depot aka the Costco ones. I have clear and black greenmade and both are very strong.

As mentioned they're different dimensions than Greenmade. I've had several HDX lids crack, and they stink! Bought some four years ago and they still smell.
