For anyone not aware, always take them up on the offer for a free additional month of service if you turn on recurring billing. Then immediately go and turn OFF recurring billing. Not only does that keep you from getting a surprise charge later, but they tend to keep offering the free month over and over again each time you redeem.

That comes out to $4.44 / mth so nothing lost... but that doesn't match the 15m product I purchase from NewEgg and Microsoft's policy for adding 75% the length of Sub when redeeming a Personal Key and staying on a Family plan.
For what it's worth - The full 15 months from the initial family sub appears to have stayed in place (without auto renew enabled). So I believe Microsoft's redemption expiration logic is wrong here rather than NewEgg's advertising of the 15m for the personal product.
I'm reaching out to Microsoft support as the error appears to be on their end.
I would recommend others who have done the conversion reach out to Microsoft support as well.
You are purchasing redemption keys from NewEgg. Rather than send them out in retail cardboard packaging, you get the key emailed to you. It doesn't matter who purchases them, what email address you use with NewEgg, etc.
For redemption - You sign into your Microsoft account and navigate to the subscriptions page for redeeming M365 keys. This is similar to redeeming the retail boxed version at Best Buy or Walmart where the redemption keys are printed on a card. (For gifting purposes.)
I would add one at a time and verify the new expiration date matches your expectation. Given how they have messed up the calculation on adding additional time with the personal edition - You may want to take screen shots of your expiration dates before and after adding each key.
Microsoft will cap you at about 5 years future expiration. If you try to go beyond this limit, they are suppose to tell you to redeem the key in the future.
Note - These NewEgg purchased keys are different than the yearly Amazon M365 deal that is somewhat tethered to your Amazon account's managed subscriptions. I don't recall if Amazon actually sends out a key code anymore. It seem like you have to redeem the Amazon sub purchase by clicking an Amazon provided link while signed into your MS account, binding the two together.
I purchased three of these with my primary NewEgg account in different transitions. (One family and two personal.) No cancelations, etc. But I paid for most of these purchases with New Egg gift cards.
I could not purchase more than two gift cards across two of my NewEgg accounts with same name, address, but different credit cards. I would simply get an error during check out. But my wife had no problem purchasing a 3rd GC using a newly created NewEgg account in her name. Same physical address and last name, but using one of her payment cards.

I sort of read a previous post that said it did, but it wasn't too clear. Can someone confirm that the NordVPN also stacks up for multiple years in the same way that M365 does?

It doesn't matter how your acquire the codes... buy from newegg, retail box from walmart, email or boxed code that was gifted, or any combination.
Log into MS account and redeem each code, one by one. You will hit a cap once the expiration date on your M365 subscription is about ~5 years out. At that point you would need to wait up to a year to redeem another key code on this account.
