I've been using the Philips Fidelio X1+X2HR with a V-Moda Boompro for ~10 years now (80% gaming, 20% music/media).

I've been tempted to try these, but I'm not sure it would really be an "upgrade" for gaming. Closed-back headphones don't often have the wide sound stage to throw around your ears that makes directional sound easy to pinpoint.

This is obviously a VERY specific question, but has anyone used X1/X2 and compared them to these for gaming? I know there would be some positive trade-offs, but for shooters directional sound is king. And the X1/X2 are just so ridiculously comfortable--I can wear them for 8 hours of WFH, then another 5+ hours of gaming without complaint. Do the Maxwells get sweaty? Clamp? Ear fatigue?

I really have no reason to replace my X2s, but who doesn't want an excuse to buy more headphones?

Maxwells are super heavy and the ear cushions can make some people sweaty. You're sound signature would probably be very similar, not necessarily an upgrade except wireless and more bass (which may be a downside for FPS). If you've been happy with your wired open backs and don't need wireless, I'd recommend looking at another pair of open backs to upgrade to, not this one.

I bought this headset specifically for work and it's incredible. It is on the heavier side and the points where it started to get uncomfortable is after about 5-6 hours of back to back meetings.

Great headphones. A bit heavy, but sound amazing. Mic is awesome too for a wireless mic.

I've been using a very similar setup for the last six years, Philips SHP9500S with the same mic, and the weight/comfort of the Maxwell's is one of the biggest reasons I've never gotten a pair.

I took the plunge on IEM's earlier today with the prime week sales. I lose out on the mic, but I can always get a standalone mic

This is undoubtedly not the ideal headset for most people. Between the weight, the quality problems, and maybe the biggest issue for me - the subpar mic... if I could go back I'd steer clear. Being closer to the $200 price point it makes more sense but I still think I'd go a different direction.

I've had the complete opposite. Two years after I bought my LCD-X, an earcup came unglued. I reached out to Audeze, and the CS guy sent me a new pair of earpads that normally sell for $90 for free. Over 1 year after warranty expiration. Audeze has a great CS reputation.

Lol I'm the guy you're looking for.

I have the same setup as yours, and actually use the Maxwell's for my Xbox and also a pair called the VZR model ones as the replacement for my fidelios x2 with a boom pro and sound blaster ae-7.

The Maxwell's have a better sound signature than the fidelios, full stop. It's an upgrade in every regards except 1) wireless headphones for PCs is dumb 2) they're heavy and 3)they do get hot after a while. I purchased some of those fancy aftermarket wicked cushions to create more separation between the driver and my ear, and does alleviate the heat a little but it doesn't get rid of it. You cannot wear the Maxwells longer than the fidelios because of the weight and heat.

I also have the dolby digital on my xbox and PC and it does a good job with soundstage and audio direction. And for music, the Maxwells are also far superior because they're planar magnetic.

I do very much like my vzr model ones as a replacement for my fidelios, but they are a gaming only headset. Music does not sound as good on them because of the driver design, it's not intimate and just changes the character of the music. But picking up sound queues in games is exceptionally good, and it responds incredibly well with bass for excellent immersion, better than my fidelios for sure.

All in all, I think my Maxwells and VZRs compliment each other really well and are likely my endgame. I know audeze was bought out by Sony but if they ever release a second generation xbox headset that fixes the weight, is cooler, and less bulky, I would be hard pressed not to upgrade. But I do not regret it, games sound incredible.

Also the side tone on the Maxwells is bad, but I don't use the feature. All things considered, they are truly a great pair of headphones if you don't have terrible neck posture and have some meat on your bones. skinny and weak people should not even consider this headphone. they aren't terribly heavy but after 2 hours you will feel the fatigue. I usually have to slip them off for a few minutes just to cool down but it's no big deal.
