Nope. Just signed up. Tested on Furiosa Mad Max. Saw 8 ads across the film timeline. Each was at least 30 seconds long.

Worked for me! Just keep in mind this is not a standalone subscription, it is managed and accessed through the Roku Channel.

I have to assume this is non-4k? I do plan to sub sometime in 2025 to binge TLOU2 and anything else that pops up but that's about it. Trying to weigh if ads and no 4k would even be worth saving $2 for the month I'd be subbed since it's 6-months of maybe used vs one month of definite binging. Hmmmm. . .
Correct and no Dolby Atmos either...

I have the ultimate 4K no-ad plan that does not expire until March, 2025 and honestly we never watch it. There just simply isn't anything of interest that is new and holy cow I've never seen a more terrible UI that doesn't allow you to sort by how new the content is. FWIW if you try to cancel your plan they will give you an annual retention offer around $140 for a full year. I declined as I don't see myself laying out the cash for something I just don't watch that much.
Sometimes it comes down to personal taste. I sometimes struggle to find stuff of interest on the legacy TV streamers because I hate broadcast TV. Other people can't get enough of their Grey's Anatomy or Friends reruns. Seems like the majority of the streaming audience watches the daylights out of Netflix. Know thyself.

While Max is "TJ Maxx" level HBO, HBO still manages to do HBO level of programming. Worth $3/mo to me. Ad load is about 4-5 minutes per hour, on the lower end of the ad supported streaming services. Peacock has little to offer, so isn't worth $2 / month or $20/annual to me.

Good news here is that it's not an annual commitment, so just pay the $3, and move on if not for you.

Does Max usually have another promo next May when this expires? If not, are most people then paying full price for the next 6 months, or just do without until next Black Friday discounts?
Pretty much, at least that's what I did and will do this year.

For me Max has the least amount of stuff, and I'd not even pay this $2.99/month if it wasn't free with Google Play credits I'll never use (Google opinion rewards $$$)

I also have too many streaming services.

Am I the only one that likes ad plans? Snaps me out of bingeing on those 40 min shows and I remember to get up and use BR, get some snacks etc. Only time I find it crappy is forwarding/rewinding past an ad point and some 20min shows. Not as bad as cable/ota or youtube but the volume changes do get annoying

You can't block ads for any streaming service with any browser extension. There are basically zero workarounds also.
You are mistaken. The person you replied to named the exact browser extension you can use to block ads on Hulu, for example.

I think too many people are obsessed with the idea of being forced to watch ad's. Look on Reddit or whatever for a minute or go take a piss. It's not that hard.

I have an active w/ ads subscription. I was able to get this applied to my next renewal (tomorrow) by stating I wanted to cancel, then selected "yes really" or whatever was the next screen, THEN it said "well we can apply this promotion onto your account".

In case you didn't want to try and create a whole new account for this deal, try canceling your existing one first, you might be able to get it applied.
