I see the same deal straight from Max themselves now - on the max.com homepage

Nope. Just signed up. Tested on Furiosa Mad Max. Saw 8 ads across the film timeline. Each was at least 30 seconds long.

Worked for me! Just keep in mind this is not a standalone subscription, it is managed and accessed through the Roku Channel.

You are mistaken. The person you replied to named the exact browser extension you can use to block ads on Hulu, for example.
Shhh.....!

The $2.99 deal (for a few months) is right on the splash page of max.com. Just use your web browser (Firefox or Chrome) and connect with an HDMI cable to watch on your flat screen.

Read through the comments as a current active subscription w ads, go through the motions to cancel subscription on hbo.com/subscription and they will offer you this $2.99/month plan and activate it to your next billing cycle right away. Worked for me.

I just canceled my regular account because it wouldn't let me apply this. Then when I cancelled it still wouldn't work, not sure if it's because I was on an $8.49/mo offer still but signed up with new email.

They didn't offer that to me but it might've been because they already had offered me $8.49 a month or 2 ago when I went to cancel.

How annoying are the ads on Max?I used to share an account with a friend and loved the content but it was as ad free
Max with ads is not terrible. Here is my personal comparison with Hulu.
Key&Peele on Hulu: 4 ads for 20 mins episode(8-10 minutes of ads per hour). If you rewind, you have to rewatch the same ad. Total BS.
The Wire on Max : 4 ads for 60 mins episode(~4 minutes of ads per hour). You can rewind as you like, you won't have to rewatch.

NOTE: My take on movies. If the movie I'd like to watch is also on Peacock or Paramount, I prefer those because they show all the ads in advance and no more interruption during the movie.

Stop buying into the crap with ads. You're encouraging them to continue this bullcrap.

I already have Max at $9.99. I selected cancel, and they gave me the option to sign up for the $3 deal.
Same here, my $105 no ads annual plan expires in March and they let me tack this on at the end of the current term:
Your offer has been applied.
Your plan: With Ads (Monthly)

Your offer: $2.99/month for 6 months

Your offer starts on your next billing date: Mar 15, 2025

You can cancel this plan change before your next billing date.

I really can't think of a reason to get HBO. Yes, it's still HBO to me. The Max thing is never happening.

Paramount Plus beats HBO and Netflix. There, I said it. It's WAY better. Apple is ALMOST there but their shows are tailored to stuffy, uptight sorts, or wannabe stuffy types. Amazon has its moments but their UI is TERRIBLE and they do interfere with their shows a lot.
Paramount Plus has a few good shows but once you watch them it's a steaming pile of garbage. At least HBO actually rolls out quality shows on a regular basis rather than just another season of a tired and boring series. Dune Prophecy is a perfect example. You'd never get a show like that on Paramount+.

I agree on Apple+. I always find it odd that all the shows have a certain snotty vibe. They all seem very slow as well.

Except Silo and Severance are literally in the top 10 best shows (for me). Also love Foundation but understand how it is not for everyone.
