Enameled cast iron is great to cook with, but a 4qt probably isn't a good size for most people. Too small for a whole chicken, too big for individual dishes. 6-7 quarts is a good size for most people's first Dutch oven

Yours is made of chinizium. This one is made in France. For a piece of cookware that lasts you a lifetime it's not at all outrageous.

One a side note, $500 MSRP is a bold-faced lie. They're around $200.

Staub is free of lead, cadmium & PFOAs. It's the cheap Chinese no nane brands that you should concern yourself with.

Enameled cast iron is great to cook with, but a 4qt probably isn't a good size for most people. Too small for a whole chicken, too big for individual dishes. 6-7 quarts is a good size for most people's first Dutch oven

Some colors are same price at Saks, if you are an Amex platinum holder and still need to use your $50 credit that could be a better deal for you

4qt can usually go down to $100 if you are not picky on the color. I like mine a lot, great for small family roast, soup, rustic bread, ... unable to destroy yet

The high end brands are not worth 10x what the entry level cost, but there is a difference in the quality of the enameling process. This attention to detail is often the difference in how long the pot/pan lasts. Keep in mind that once the enamel cooking surface is damaged, you either need to professionally fix the pan or dispose of it (enamel is effectively glass and ingesting glass shards is bad, mmkay). Both serve a purpose in the market. The people who spend big money on unglazed cast iron- that's a different story

Yours may have been manufactured with dangerous chemicals if its made in China. And it will eventually chip because of being lower quality. Staub are made to be of heirloom quality youll be passing down to you grandchildren.
