Eh, literally this week at my grocery store they are on sale for $1 which is very common plus you can choose about 6 different flavors.

Growing up, Betty Crocker Devil's Food was something mom used all the time. I think it was her go to chocolate cake, and we all liked it. I will take this over Duncan Hines Devil's Food any day. I'm in for four at 84¢ per box w/S&S maxed. This is half the current regular price. It's cheaper than Walmart, even with the Walmart Cash offer they have for when you buy two.

it's just flour, cocoa powder, and sugar with a tiny bit of baking powder/soda. it's not hard to make from scratch.

I think you can say that about a lot of foods, but the Betty Crocker is far more complex than your recipe. Caveat emptor. "Enriched Flour Bleached, Sugar, Cocoa Processed with Alkali, Corn Syrup, Leavening (baking soda, monocalcium phosphate, sodium aluminum phosphate). Contains 2% or less of: Modified Corn Starch, Palm Oil, Corn Starch, Propylene Glycol Mono and Diesters, Monoglycerides, Salt, Dicalcium Phosphate, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Xanthan Gum, Cellulose Gum, Carob Powder, Artificial Flavor."

Some people just prefer the convenience of pre-made cake mixes.

Yeah and this makes a good cake, also there frosting a good vs from scratch. I just have arthritis and other thing so if I can go easy I will. We had a aunt make a cake from scratch and the frosting and cake wasn't as good as Betty Crocker.
