Be very careful with bulk resellers on Groupon and social stack. They've been known to be selling office products for cheap AND you can find them on MS's authorized reseller pages... But bulk selling licenses like this isn't actually legal. MS can revoke them at any point. Seems like most people are willing to take the risk. This Costco deal seems to be actually really good for a genuine Home product.
Absolutely! But you're knowingly taking that risk instead of promoting the option as a risk-free choice. To each his own. But prices and 'deals' like that are closer to pirating software which should not be promoted on SD.

FYI MS office licenses are sold in various types such as retail (as you mention) or commercial or volume licenses. It's the terms and conditions which makes it illegal to use. There is a grey area so it's not as black and white as you see it with retail licenses. This is why it is legal for Groupon, stack social or other 3rd party selling volume licenses for cheaper because it's intended for software development, testing, virtual machines. MS already got their cut when the licenses were generated and sold to the vendor. This is why you see so many different stories of people saying their license was revoked or my license is going strong after X years. The intended use is already tracked by MS so it is perfectly legal to use under the terms and conditions.

I'm still going strong with Office 2018 version that I got for about $40. It works perfectly fine. I figure by 2028 I MIGHT decide to upgrade. I figure $4 a year is about what it's worth.

To spend e Visa card we need to find an item exactly for $25 to redeem online? Cannot split with different payment method.
Not sure why you would want to do this. Just use the full $25 to pay part of a utility bill. I always use these to pay part of my Spectrum bill.

Yes, it's a stupid rule. What I normally do buy a gift card with it. Buy a $25 Amazon gift card that way you can you can add other payment methods. Don't try and spend it directly. You will never get $25 exactly so you will have to forgo some change.

Side note.
Only buy Office at this price if your a power user.

Everyone else can just use the free online version - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/m...or-the-web

For offline, take a look at LibreOffice.

I have yet to see one where the license got revoked. If this was at least somewhat widespread issue, I'd imagine there would be lawyers willing to file a class action suite against Groupon over this to make some money.

Newegg was selling this the other day for $65 which included NordVPN subscription. This was for 6 users. Why do I need to go with Costco?

Gift card idea is fine but honestly I don't see the point of that either. Very easy to just pay part of a utility bill and be done with it.

I have a suggestion (it's what I did) for using the $25 gift card - add to your Steam account:
(user name) > view my wallet > add $25.00

For those unaware, Steam is used for PC gaming purchases (there's some general Windows software as well)

$65 is for 1 year (hence Office 365). The Costco license is a perpetual license - will never expire. At least until Microsoft stops supporting Office 2024 in about 2030. It will still work after that, but MS won't publish security patches.

I've managed MS licenses in the past. The perpetual license that is tied to a device can easily be revoked for computer part changes like the cpu or hard drive. The security is built in Office. The most probable reason it is revoked is due to violating the EULA, but is confusing for the consumer because MS enforces sporadically. My best guess is that MS already knows the end of life support of each MS office edition which is about 4 years. About 10 years for no more updates and fixes. The user has an old application that can be hacked. MS doesn't have to actively enforce because it can be done passively. MS already made money on the first sale to the reseller, going after small fish is a waste of resource.

You can always call MS support for assistance. License management is better by linking your MS account even if you purchased a single device license. Personally, I've had about 2 or 3 devices since 2016 which the license was revoked for various reasons. For me it's pointless to get back the older license since every 4 years there is a new edition.

If you build a new PC, can you change this over to new PC?

Yes you can. You will install it the same way (follow the instructions on the card in the box and login to your Microsoft account) You will be able to see it listed as one of your owned products and can download on any device you wish. Follow the instructions for activating the product with the license key. Note that by activating the software on a new device with the license key will disable the software on any other device that it was previously installed on so make sure to copy over any important files from the old device to the new one.

If you ever need to use it on the old device again, just follow the instructions to reactivate the product using the license key when you open any of the Office software titles (which will simultaneously disable it on the new device).

Thanks. Good to know, as Ive never actually bought a retail key; used to get office cheap with HUP (home use program) several years ago, but that is no more.
