Other than extra brightness, this 43 qled is a slight downgrade from older 43s425 s435 for pc monitor use.
This qled is noticeably brighter, and has much much less dirty screen effect in gray background compared to older 4 series.
Setting both TVs at similar brightness, and watching high quality 4k60 youtube nature videos, I can't really tell any color quality difference.
If you crank it up, the QLED isn't "WOW". It's just brighter due to more backlight.
Unlike the temporal dithering of older 43" tcl 4 series models, this qled uses spatial dithering pixel rendering (crosshatching), so it gives all images a screen door effect that you can't unsee once you notice it.
You can see vertical lines on the images from normal desktop viewing distance.
As a TV, sitting double distance away, you can't see the screen door of course.
Some say the crosshatching gives it a sharper image, but I don't buy it. I'm literally sitting in front of both screens side by side. My old 43s435 is no less sharp, and it doesn't have screen door lines.
considering the lack of features in these basic model qled TVs, the $160 hisense qled google TV at bestbuy sounds like a better buy.
The hisense probably has the same screendoor effect as this TCL.
image quality comparison photos attached, showing screendoor vs no screendoor....
One thing to note, at least on the older model I have (and the Google version of this TV from earlier research on it) is that the TV will properly display chroma 4:4:4 provided the TV picture inputs are set to HDMI 2.0. This again comes down to the output device and cable, but provided you have the right hardware it should work well as a budget 43" 4K monitor, which I'd guess is why some people are looking at this deal.
TV OS is a deal breaker for some. For me it wouldn't be that big of a deal since my primary use case for the TV is as a monitor and not as an every day driver for media consumption, but to some the OS will make or break the experience. Without getting too off track, if the 55" TV is the FireTV OS version, that alone would be enough to steer me in another direction. Or I'd at least be looking at adding a streaming device to my, uh, streaming device. Roku OS and Google TV OS are both superior in my opinion, but again, I won't get the topic too far off track.
TL;DR - If a person is looking for a budget 43" 4K monitor this should be a great buy for them as it should properly display their text. They should take note, though, that it is a 60Hz panel and as such may not be a great value for gaming if that's something it will be used for.

I'm guessing this specific model has just hit the market? Because the only other reviews I can find are for the Google TV version. I know better than to assume it's the exact same QLED panel as the Google TV version so here I am asking if anyone can confirm or deny.

- Auto Game Mode (ALLM) - Automatically enables game mode for the lowest possible input lag and latency for an unmatched gaming performance.
- Motion Rate 120 - Improved motion clarity with movies, sports, and games.
Not sure I'll be gaming on it so 60Hz refresh will be OK. Movie and video playback will be important though as I do sometimes do a little video editing. Also need it to have decent options to adjust the colors and such. Not wanting a dumbed down menu system with no method for the owner to make detailed adjustments.Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.
Alright then. How does this compare to this Hisense QLED from bestbuy for $160?
I'm at work otherwise I'd do my own research before asking
