I have checked lots of reviews on this and wanted to share two main advantages of this over other equivalent Mini Gaming PCs like Asus NUC with Core Ultra 7/9 and and RTX 4070

The Cooling is way way better on this one. Despite having 24 Core i9-14900HX CPU, in CodeBench R24 all core load, it runs significantly cooler than Core Ultra 9-185H in Asus NUC. The temps never went over 90 degree C and the average was just around 80-82 degree C.
Unlike other RTX 4070 Laptop GPUs which can max reach up to 110W in 99% cases, this device can actually push it to 125W (Default TDP of RTX 4070 laptop) almost all the time and even near to 140 Watt in highly GPU dependent games, like in Cyberpunk.
Against this configuration, Mac Mini with M4 chip + 24GB Ram + 512GB SSD model has advantage in only efficiency. You need at least m4 Pro to even come close to the performance and that will cost you more with similar Ram and storage.
"pay the price of a similarly specd laptop for an off brand laptop without screen, speakers, ram, battery and ssd".

While I love minipcs, these prices are a joke.

Surprised this isn't getting more attention. Am I missing something? A full size desktop with same specs typically runs for this much if not more, even custom built ones. This seems like a really good deal given the sff and portability. Usually there's a hefty premium for the smaller sizes like this. The build quality seem really decent to boot.
The 14900hx is around desktop 12900 performance. Mobile 4070 is like a desktop 3060.

You can get a desktop 12900 rtx 3060 for cheaper.

Even the recently posted asus rog sff desktop at 1099 is a better pc.

Gotcha fair enough. I haven't been keeping myself updated on mobile equivalent hardware.

The point is that, for people who are not looking at gaming but looking at large language modeling, 8G is too small. And this make the Mac mini a perfect value proposition. Even the cheapest Mac Mini now comes with 16 g unified memory, equivalent to that of laptop 4090. Sure the m4 is nowhere nearly as fast as even the 4060 for inferencing, but it can at least load the model.

anyways, for non-LLM useage, I used to look at their previous version that comes with 3070, but now I think Beelink with ex dock is probably the better way to go.
just don't understand why ppl would wanna run llm locally...tons of free one online...maybe for security/privacy...nah nobody cares about ur porn portfolios

It's much cheaper if you are using it for a business use case or an academic use case. In those cases you may need to customize the model, fine tune with more data, etc.
But yeah, it's not a mainstream use case for most people. People who do local data science are doing it for a reason.

I get why we say it and I agree with the concept, but I personally think "barebones" is not a good word choice

Depends on your workload. If you adding a ton of effects then it takes a bit of time, but generally it is good enough.

13900/14900-based CPUs are nuclear meltdowns waiting to happen with excessive voltages. People ppl le reporting lots of CPU failures even with low temps.

What the fark. This guy again? You literally claimed a m4 beat 7940hx easy pissy. Now the m4 in a Mac mini beat a 14900hx?
Seriously?

Love the slim form factor but wishing it would pack a little more punch than a 4070. Is a next gen version on the horizon with the 5000 series laptop gpus coming soon?
