77 lbs upper limit is very limiting for higher end TVs. i have an older version of this and the IR sensor in the mount gets triggered by "any" other IR device. my tv remote triggers it, my AVR triggers it. small devices from any remote triggers the tv mount and it starts moving. also the sensor must be relocated so the remote can directly see it. if it is offset it wont trigger it but ofcourse other devices will.

I had an 85" LG and it was under 77 lbs... I think that's pretty reasonable considering the mechanics here.

Newer TVs aren't the behemoths of the past. The newer panels can easily be installed by one person.

Manual Mantelmount is the way to go. Yes more expensive but they work great. Mine is recessed into the drywall and looks flush when lifted up. Though it pretty much lives in the lower position. So much better for our necks not stare up.

This reeks of being an ad for mantelmount. What you're describing would easily be $800+ from their website PLUS the cost of installing.

Its an interesting tech, but quite a different market of buyer.

I just got a 77" LG G3 OLED and it's 81lbs without stands according to the listing. Less than 1% of the population has the strength and balls to mount a expensive TV

Thoughts on this mount as a whole? I have a friend considering selling me theirs (unopened). Just curious about the quality.

I installed it myself in an hour. But yes they are much more expensive than this one. But if your only option for a TV is above the fireplace I don't see how you can not get some kind of a lowering mount. How people state at the ceiling I just don't get. It's one of the first things we did when we moved into our new house.
