In regards to the "questionable website" business, I think people are being a bit hyperbolic by not understanding how Android functions these days.

The primary system services got decoupled from the base OS ROM several versions ago, meaning that you will still receive updates for key components even after the base OS is retired.

For web browsing, including in-app web applets, that component is called WebView. As long as you're receiving updates to WebView, anything that runs on a webpage should be fairly insulated from any new exploits that get discovered.

Where the base OS security updates protect you has more to do with the applications you install. So, if you don't install any questionable software, having an OS that has reached EoL isn't the end of the world.

Damn that's cheap…. Here's some details….. might be ok as a throw away…..
The TCL 10.1" Tab 10 5G Tablet keeps you connected with 5G connectivity while sporting a 16:10 10.1" IPS screen. A 1920 x 1200 screen resolution delivers sharp quality for movies, TV shows, and games while a MediaTek Kompanio 800T processor delivers robust performance with 2.4 GHz speeds from eight cores. 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage allow you to utilize short and long-term memory. If expansion is needed, this tablet also takes a separately purchased micro-SD card up to 512GB so you have plenty of space for files. With Android 12, facial recognition, and blue light or dark mode, this tablet's quality-of-life features make it perfect for personal entertainment and mobile gaming.

Should I even care if this is Android 12? Current tablet is slower but running 14....I don't think I'll mind the (theorical) OS downgrade.

And I assume this will work just fine as a wifi only tablet, correct?

Warning! This tablet has the T-mobile 5G bands, and 4G LTE bands. However it won't make phone calls. One member on S/D bought it and tried it. No bueno. You can only use the SIM to go online. Another red flag. Some reviews said ATT SIM or the likes won't work. I guess the tablet is not fully unlocked.

For gaming experience, and etc., you can find video reviews online.

Do you use any feature that is NOT available with Android 12? If your answer is "No", then Android 12 is more than fine for you - if your only concern is the Android version. I have a phone with Android 8. I still turn it on, and update apps every a couple of weeks.

No, I'm not trying to tick off 'Android V14' from my bucket list, I was more asking are there any noteworthy features that will be absent in 12. As far as I know there aren't any that matter to most users, especially ones shopping for a budget tablet but perhaps I am incorrect in that....thus my question.

Don't use it to visit "questionable" websites. When you are not using it, turn-off the internet connection. Reboot it every day, or whenever you feel like it. For watching YT and reading ebooks, Android 12 is fine. I have a tablet that only has Android 9, I use it all the time. Never a hiccup. It has a nice 11-inch screen (10.75 to be exact). That's the only reason I won't be buying anything smaller than 12-inch.

I agree with you. I have devices using Android 8 to Android 15. Whatever app I use on my Android 15 phone, I can also use it on my Android 8 phone without problem.
