Brands like these sell hundreds of thousands annually. Is it likely it will cause a fire under proper use? Probably not.
You guys are probably plugging in way too many appliances under the same circuit. With old wiring and an overload, it's more likely the fire starts from the wiring than the appliance.
heavy duty appliances should be used on a dedicated circuit. 1700 watts should be used on a 20 amp breaker. If you're using it on a 15 amp breaker, you're already hitting the limit. Add in a microwave under the same circuit and you're going to cause a fire eventually.
