Another 8gb ram stick and an RTX 3050 6gb and you can do esports gaming at good frame rates for around $300 on a recent platform. Not a bad deal.

Not able and not enough to run any GPU that needs a power connector.

Mine runs 24/7 and uses about 1.1kWh. Per day. Peak draw 42 watts

I've been eyeballing this system for a little while. It's a cheap entry point for 12th gen Intel. I'm pretty sure you'll be stuck at a 65w CPU if you want to upgrade. So no 12700k, but you could upgrade to 12700 non k. If you want to use a GPU you'll be stuck using a single slot low profile board powered gpu. So basically a Rx 6400 low profile or a Quadro card. Although the socket may support 13th and 14th gen I doubt HP would allow that, but I haven't looked it up.

My use case would be for emulation where the most important thing is CPU. A GPU can help too.

Is that still on the higher side?

Announcement: it's 2024.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics [bls.gov], the lowest regional average energy cost is 13.9¢/kWh (Oct-2024).

Multiply that by 1.1 kWh and 30 days and you're at $4.59 per month.

Not sure if that even includes distribution/line fees. Some may be paying less, but it's far more likely that you're paying more.

The (unweighted) average on that datatable is 21.2¢/kWh which brings you up to $7 per month... $85 per year.

it looks like it takes ddr4 and ddr5 ram per cpu specs.

Is this laptop size ram like a mini pc? I dont think so?

You cannot choose to put either ddr4 or ddr5. The motherboard will only accept one or the other. These should all be ddr4, and it uses standard desktop RAM. I would highly recommend adding a second matching stick or upgrading both to use both slots for better performance.

Had this deal pop up a few years ago. They canceled the order on me. It turned out the specs didn't match what they were actually shipping. I planned on upgrading it to a cheap gaming machine. Proprietary everything, not much you can upgrade.
