T-mobile has a hidden plan for 30GB data a month data plan (you get your own sim and need your own device).

I got a cellular modem for $40: https://www.netgear.com/home/mobile-wifi/lte-modems/lm1200/ [netgear.com] and was able to use it with T-mobile's provided sim card.

Call in or use their online chat to inquire about the "Basic Mobile Internet 30GB plan (SOC: MI30TE or MI30TI)". It is $15/mo but you get a $5/mo discount by using autopay.

If you can't repro then you suck. This also provides you with a phone number for the data account and you get access to t-mobile tuesdays despite it only being a data plan Smilie

My Comcast/Infinity here in CA has been plagued with outages with the tech service confirming that my house is the last on their cable pipeline. Even though he bumped the speed, outages continue. If I go with this 30GB of data a month, will watching a few hours of Prime, Tubi, etc. and a few hours of internet eat up the 30GB before the month is over? T-Mo signal is strong at my house.

Tempting to use as a backup internet plan. Still have a free tmobile 5g pocket modem from a couple years ago.

I had this plan and it was utter garbage. it has the lowest priority vs other plans. The infimobile deal is better at $99 a year and priority data.

When I had this one (MI30TI), it worked with phones.

What this one doesn't have is international roaming. So I got customer service to change to the business unlimited tablet plan and was able to use my phone in other countries(slow speed, but at least i can look at map or check messages).

Is an existing T-Mobile account with voice line(s) required? I want to set this up for an elder person. I guess they need to do credit check?
no. you can open an account with just this hotspot line.

Tried calling their support. But they did not offer to activate this grandfathered plan! Bummer!

In the post, OP said, "This also provides you with a phone number for the data account"

If you can't make and receive calls/texts from that phone number, then what is it used for?

EDIT:
Also, I just read this:
"This plan is not subject to price lock, so in the future T-Mobile could decide to reassess the price or allotment of data on the plan. That's a key point to note, and customers that get this plan should keep an eye on the pricing going forward."

https://tmo.report/2023/12/this-s...-t-mobile/

Does anyone know if they're required to inform you before they'd raise the price?

Do you already have the biz tablet plan and try to add more but get declined?

What if you cancelled your account that I had within the past 90 days? Can I still get this offer then?

Does this require an active plan? I have a plan but it's a business plan. I'm hoping to get this as a cheap backup plan for my home internet during outages or natural disasters
