Groupon has the exact same deal. You can either go to Groupon website and type in Costco membership, or start at your favorite cashback portal.

If you buy this deal and end up not qualifying for the "new member" qualification, do you just not get the $45 card in email? Any way to find this out before checking out?

Any tricks for triggering as "new"? I believe a household member on a prior closed account counts as a full member. What do they track, email, address, phone?

Pretty sure they tracked it by my physical address. When I've had to return things, they'll look up my account and ask me when I bought it because they can see all my various memberships and numbers I've had over the past two decades. I'm fairly certain the new member threshold for these deals is 18 months after the last membership expired.

Will my wife who is a household member on my account be considered as a new member for this deal?

No, she'll be considered an existing member. I actually stopped adding my wife as a household member so we could alternate each year to take advantage of these deals. That's a bit harder now that they are checking ID's at self checkout.

My code didn't work. Every time I try to redeem it on costco.com, it says "Sorry, we are experiencing technical issues. Please try again later."

I called Costco and they said they can't help. They told me to either get another code or buy from Groupon and try again.

Dang - sorry to hear. I've been reading online about this deal since it has been out for some time now. A mixed bag of experiences, as many have experienced this difficulty too. Now, I'm not so confident about this being an awesome deal...

use a different email address to sign up as a NEW member. DON'T advertise that you are an existing member when you go into the store for your sign up.
