One has a large hump, the other has a short hump

I picked up one of the older ones a couple weeks ago fro $60 on clearance at my Home Depot. Used it to cut away some roots that were strangling one of my sprinkler heads. It's a great tool.
is recip saw good for making straight cuts? i bought a jigsaw but it requires a guide and it doesn't always come out straight especially longer cuts

I just picked up ONE+ pole saw, jigsaw, Brad nailer and blower. They all work fine except blower is weak... The cheaper polesaw helped me cut bunch of pine branches that were pretty thick. Brad nailer works very well, jigsaw is great but needs a better quality blade. I have been eying circular saw but 5 1/2 seems small and reviews are not that great. But at $79 with 2 batteries it seemed like a good deal.

Recips. though are good for in situ cuts. Cutting out a muffler for replacing. Demolition projects like replacing cabinets. I'd not use a circular or jig for those.

Recips are great tools imo, they can cut metal or wood depending on the blade. For wood, they have none of the maintenance concerns of a chainsaw, they're safer than a chainsaw, and the blades are very inexpensive and swap in 10 seconds. Keeping a chainsaw going means way more time and money. I have a mini sunjoe chainsaw (it's fine) and a 40v ryobi chainsaw (it's fine), and I always use the one handed recip if I can get away with it as it's safer and simpler even if it takes a few minutes longer. I'm not feeling huge trees of course. And you still need hearing protection, eye protection, and a respirator.

But in 2018/2019 Ryobi had free tool deals where you got (2) free brushless tools. They also had large brushless sets as well. And the prices were nuts. They started at $229 and they kept dropping...$199, $179, $159 etc. And you could keep going back to price match. And they were brushless tools.
What Ryobi has done, is made their brushless tools premium priced (makes no sense, you might as well spend a little bit more and get better tools with 5 yrs warranty vs 3 yrs), and bumped up the non-brushless tools to the previous brushless tools price. I also have found that some of the tools are cheapened out too, to cut costs. The brushless recip saw I got for free in 2018 has been put through hell and back through (8) apartment renos over half of which required decent demo work, and i've used it for a lot of landscaping work too. and it keeps going. You read the reviews of the new versions of Ryobi saws today.... and there are issues. Overheating, blades falling out, gearing stripping out etc. It's stupid
To be honest, I wouldn't expect the real deals to start until next year...early Jan blowouts like when Home Depot tries to offload all of the front department stocking stuffers (husky, dewalt small items, Defiant LEDs, and other trinkets)
