If you take it apart, there is a thick silicone o-ring that has to be broken in (same as the Facom).

Kids on youtube use a cordless drill with a hex adapter.

That is not accurate. You can take any craftsman product back to Lowe's or Ace Hardware. The only stipulation is that they must carry that tool in the store and it must be a Craftsman brand.

Lowe's should exchange the broken tools under warranty as long as they carry the item. If it's a older style tool or one not carried in the store you will need to go through Craftsman directly. Usually they will require a picture of the item and send the replacement for free.

That handle looks just like a double edge razor handle.

The ratchet stinks anyway. Terribly stiff (backdrag) and the thing is not serviceable. As mentioned the warranty ain't great either. You're better off with SATA or Quinn.
Agreed, I have it and wouldn't recommend it; it's my least favorite 1/4" ratchet by a large margin. I've even tried breaking in with a cordless drill as the other post mentions but the backdrag is still stiff as ever, and with a chunky head and short handle to boot. Perhaps it's exceptionally strong, but no one is reaching for a 3.5" long 1/4" ratchet for its strength.

This is a thread for a V-series ratchet. The guy asked if this ratchet was a STUBBY version.
You said these v-series ratchets are short. I'm pointing out that there are long v-series ratchets as well.

I see some claim it is stiff, they are using power tools to 'loosen' then up.. try soaking in trany fluid...

They're not just imagining that the Craftsman backdrag is stiff.

It really does suck on these V-series ratchets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oOSsOzWmqE

The wild thing is Craftsman really was trying to sell these ratchets for $45 to $55 each over the last few years. https://www.acehardware.com/depar...ts/2015370

I personally have put the 1/4" V-Series on a cordless drill with a hex bit, and it breaks in just fine. Just like any other modern Facom.

If you are a Super-lube kind of ratchet guy, you have to drip it in with needle oiler through the selector switch. The rest of the head is completely sealed with a thick silicone o-ring.

Thanks for posting this deal.

I was at Lowes and asked the store manager about warranty claims and he said that for in store warranty service, the purchase has to be from Lowes.

Another options is to contact Craftsman directly.

What I didn't ask is the shipping cost for online warranty claims. Does Craftsman cover both the shipping return and shipping replacements ?

I miss the days when you can just walk-in to any Sears store and get a replacement on the spot.

This is not true they told me the same thing and then I called the corporate number and then they told me to go back into the store, they spoke to the manager, and they were already waiting for me to exchange

This is the generalization of the policy we are sold on when buying tools.

However in practice many managers have coached their staff to place additional barriers to returns and warranty claims that are not part of their official policies. This is an effort by the store to have better sales metrics resulting in a better bonus for management.

In my experience if you don't take no for an answer they generally call a manager who shows up, instantly approves the warranty swap before even being briefed on the situation. They might stay just long enough to make sure your not trying to swap to a more premium tool.

Quote from g3ck1 :
Yes, from what I've heard, they purposely give you the runaround when you ask for a warranty replacement. Definitely not as easy as Husky or Harbor Freight. But again, at these sale prices, it's cheaper than even Harbor Freight.
Many Harbor Freight stores do this to some degree as well. They commonly ask you to have the whole set rather than just the broken tool. If you're wearing a service uniform they might try to deny warranty, as most lifetime warrantied tools (not just at HF) only cover personal use and not commercial.
