Yes. Troy-Bilt, Craftsman, and Remington are just some of the labels that are branded by MTD. This model has many different names (e.g. TB4218, CM4218, RM4218) and is a rebranded metal-framed Chinese clone. I have a Craftsman variety of this saw. It's fine, but it's heavy. The carb can be finicky and the chain(s) may need to be sharpened out of the box. $98 is a good price for this.

Depending on your budget, another option would be a Husqvarna also on sale. Stihl's, Echo's, and Huskies will always cost more because they're generally higher quality and serviceable.
I've been watching this saw and a couple of others. If you look at the reviews on Walmart 4 out of 5 of the 1 star reviews have to do with delivery not the product (hate when people do this). Taking those out it puts it more in the 4.5 out of 5 stars range rather than the 4.2 out of 5 which is pretty close to the other sites with this model. 4.5 out of 5 average is pretty good for any gas equipment, you're going to have issues, solid deal thanks for posting!

Great deal for a real chainsaw. No gimmicky failure prone features too. If you're looking for a $100 gas powered chainsaw this is a good choice.

Ask Google Who manufactures the Troy-Bilt chainsaws?Answer: MTD HoldingsTroybilt is one of the reputable brand names in tools.
I would not classify anything made by MTD as reputable. But they do have a reputation...

There are a lot of better choices out there if you want a cheap chainsaw. Amazon has the Pinkway 63ACK for a decent price and 63cc. I know Husqvarna has let their patent expire, so you're seeing a lot of 372xp knockoffs on the web for cheap. They all have OEM specs, so if you need to replace a part, there is an overflow of replacement parts on resellers for the 372. For example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CB11T...s-ingress0

A great "low-budget" saw with good parts availability. This model has been produced for almost 20 years.

Plus, a customer can call MTD and, shocker, an actual human will answer the phone!

Here's a good Oregon replacement chain [amazon.com] for any buyer (On sale, $14.88)

My thoughts as well.. I always thought MTD went way downhill in the 90's. Troy Built was bought out for the name use in the maket place. That company is long gone. Still $99 is a price to be rekoned with. A lot of folks will need it for the one day a tree falls in the suburbs. Definatly not for a daily tool..Buy it and put in on the shelf for that day you need it. Buy it and smuggle it in to California. Buy it and Stock pile them like I did with uncandecent bulbs before the day the were suposed to be banned.

Depends. If you have a small lot and only basic limbing work, a battery or electric saw would be the easiest. If you have more tree work to deal with, an affordable 2-stroke like this one or the Husqvarnais a better option. If you have a ton of trees to maintain and don't mind the weight, a high quality 46-55 CC Stihl, Husqvarna, or Echo would be a good choice. Any 2-stroke saw will require mixing ethanol-free fuel with 2-stroke oil (40:1 for Troy Bilt, 50:1 for high-quality saws) among other more involved maintenance. Whatever you choose, please watch a bunch of related YouTube videos to better understand how to properly operate and maintain the most dangerous tool you will ever own. Best of luck to you.
Any recommendations for electric saws? I have a small gas one that I need to repair or replace but due to limited trimming I need to do near house and power source an power corded electric may be nice if it weighs less than even a small gas one. I don't have any battery operated tools and don't care for expensive, heavy batteries that have limited lifespan.

They could have literally bought a trailer full of these for North Carolina instead of sending them cordless rechargeable saws

One thing I have learned in my 52 years on this planet. If you want a reliable chainsaw buy electric for smaller jobs. If you need gas I would only buy a Stihl or Husqvarna. Period, end of story

for 72CC, 24" chainsaw, it doesn't seem bad. this is a knock off of a 1200 saw and seems like it might be a decent knockoff, maybe a crappy bar

this might be the same saw for $175 delivered. I think i'll give this a try, and maybe the troy bilt as well. can never have too many chainsaws.\\

Looks to be a Husqvarna clone. Here's a pic from the page at the link you posted.

I want it, I don't need it.
I don't need it. I don't.

Maybe I'll convince myself if I keep repeating it.

I need one a half dozen times a year. I want a better one but just can't justify it based on use...My refurb poulan pro lasted about 12 years by taking care of it. Maybe this will too?

Gonna sleep on it. Maybe it sells out and decides for me.

I have run battery through full charge 3x now, chain still great, I wear out before battery does. Very impressed.
I had a fairly expensive electric one at one time and this is 10x better than anything corded.
