[edit] Read through some reviews on Amazon. With the 3-piece set, the largest bag, listed as 28", is too large for all airlines according to several reviewers because the wheels are not included in the measurement. The 2-piece set is on sale on Amazon for $183, which isn't bad, and the larger bag there is listed at 24", which should be fine for checking. Unless you want the huge 28" bag for road trips, the 2-piece set looks to be the wiser choice.
