I've had this same model for around 8-10 years. I have had to replace the circuit board once. Company sent me one for like $30 or something like that. Excellent machine I use it every single day. The company does send out replacement parts if needed. Even helped me diagnose my problem.

I have the bambino plus and I'm really unhappy with it. I'm good at following directions and troubleshooting, and research, but I can never get a cup like the ones in the coffee shops. If I knew that my 400$ machine would not even be half as good as the multi thousand dollar machines I'd have picked a different hobby. I think this machine letting you control more variables might get you closer than the coffee shops

df54 came out presently and it is close to half the price of the df64. the taste difference is negligible. Main benefit of df64 is if you want to swap to using SP burrs but those are also kind of expensive too
You're right. I meant to type in df54 the second time but I typed it wrong.
I don't know about the taste; there's 54mm, 64mm, 83mm, and maybe they'll make even better ones but at some point you get very little benefit for a lot of extra money. So, yes, the Bambino plus a DF54 will make excellent cappuccino and latte drinks, or straight espresso.

I briefly had this Infuser machine before I bought my dual boiler. I didn't like the time it took to switch from brewing to steaming. The Bambino Plus is a way better machine.

My mother insists on using only Bustelo pre-ground. Would this still be worth getting?

No. If you don't have a grinder, basically any machine that has a pressurized basket (they're usually lower end) are what you want. They'll take Bustello preground.

Deciding between espresso machines to add to our registry. What process do you recommend for making iced lattes? Swirl a fresh shot of espresso with ice, then add the oatmilk and flavored syrup? Thanks!

Good machine. Going strong for years. Just keep it clean (get the cleaning tablets) and descale it (descalars sold on Amazon) a couple of times a year. Absolutely wonderful for people who are on the run all the time because of the heating jet. It heats up in seconds unlike boilers which need 5-10 minutes. It will make a double shot in about 2 minutes flat, grind to cup and its excellent 9/10 times.
Tips and Tricks
  • Every now and then, if you forget to clean it properly, especially the spigot area, it will not distribute water evenly resulting in iffy shots. This is true for all machines, not just this one. So make sure you clean it once every week or two depending on how often you brew.
    • After pulling shots, run the brew cycle for a few seconds to let water through. This will help flush any stuck grinds if they got up into the spigot.
  • I cannot overstate how useful portafilter screens are to keep your spigot clean. They are cheap, buy some and use them. They also help with water distribution.
  • Temperature fluctuations are espresso killers! Proper temperature will result in much better pulls and a nicer layer of crema.
    • Warm up the portafilter BEFORE you put the grinds in it. This is to insure water comes out hot immediately when you pull otherwise, the initial water will be the colder than the rest of the shot. This is easy with these jet heated machines. Simply turn on the brew cycle with just the portafilter in place. Let water come through till its hot. It takes like 5 seconds... Wipe down the inside of the portafilter till dry, then put your grinds, tap properly, put screen on top, and place back into machine to keep warm.
    • Froth milk before pulling shot. Again this will help insure your machine and portafilter is primed for the pull.
  • Needless to say, grind is important. Invest in a good grinder.
  • Needless to say, the beans matter a lot. Fresh is important if you want optimal crema (try for 0-2 months old). If you dont care for crema, you can get older bags of beans.
    • Expensive beans make practically no difference if you do things right. As long as the beans are fresh, from same region, same type and same roast, you will get the same result. Ive tested thoroughly at this point. You can get Peruvian, Columbian or Nicaraguan beans from Amazon for like $6 a 12oz bag and they are just as good as the $12 craft beans. What you are paying for is freshness. The $12 should be less than a month old when you get it. The Amazon bag will range from 0-4 months old. Older beans means less crema, but taste doesnt change all that much otherwise.
What's a good youtube how-to video for a beginner? Thanks for the tips!

There are used very good and like new ones on Amazon that have an additional 20 percent off

Considerable savings. But good Breville warranty likely won't apply there. So caveat emptor maybe

Great machine. Got it at this price earlier this year and love it. Big step up from the lower $100/$200 machines and the shot quality is amazing.

The grouphead of my infuser under screen is plastic and melted. I was so annoyed I may have eaten all that plastic. When I emailed them about it, they said it's BPA free and you should be good to go.

There's a guy with a video with same issue in reviews with only 1 year of use. Not sure if this link works but if not, see review video with still showing white corrosion on black plastic with screw hole in middle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0089SS...2913017445

Why does it feel like buying a coffee/espresso machine is so confusing?

Are there any videos that help a newbie figure out what type of machine is right for me?

When you read about the fully automatics people say they are no good bc it's not much better than a Nespresso. Few options and customizations. But you can use better beans/grounds.

Then semi-automatics vs more manual options. So many options. And no consistency in true pro and cons of the different options. Type of heating element. Grouheads, construction materials, built in algos, doesn't get hot enough, breaking down frequently.
At some point I just give up and stick with low quality Dunkin, but would love a quality cup of in the morning.

I would invest in bambino plus and a grinder, considering support and parts availability and longevity
I'm surprised there hasn't been a BF deal on them yet. I've had one in my Amazon cart for ages. I would say maybe the Bambino Plus isn't a hot Christmas gift this year but I've barely seen any espresso machine deals. Maybe Monday...
