Because external drives aren't 'enterprise' even in the loosest use of the word. Go read a slick on the WD Reds (this deal) or even Golds. Most of what you see, won't be included in your external drives. As always, buy for what you need.

Why are internal drives pricier than external hard drives?

I decided to pull the trigger on these. Seems some CB sites have upped their cashback on WD purchases since too, saw an offer for 12%. That combined with the 5% back on PayPal+Chase Freedom makes this quite a good deal.

That depends what external you are comparing to, but with the WD easystore for example this is faster and has a longer warranty (5 vs 2 year). I believe the easystores are only 5400 RPM.

I decided to get these, let's see how it goes. I will keep them sealed until cyber Monday and if nothing better comes up, I will return.

It is interesting that when you add 2 of the 16TB hard drive it will ask you if you want to upgrade to 18TB drive which I assume not included in the deal....

Because external hard drives are not usually going to be the same quality or speed as WD Red Pro 7200 RPM drives, and they are not built for constant use like these NAS drives. Most WD external drives are Blue or Green, rather than the higher quality drives such as Black, Red, Purple, or Gold.

every link to an external drive, ever.
There are plenty of links to external drives that are more expensive than the same sized internal drives. Where are the links to a similar quality external drive as a WD Red Pro 7200 RPM for less money?

They've had the golds 2 for $450 for a while. They're basically red pros, but slightly better. Not a big enough difference though which is why they have been on clearance.

Same. I waffled on the 8TB and then went out of stock so I went for these

Slightly cheaper per TB than the 22TB and 20TB deals but those higher capacity drives have slightly better speeds and the OptiNAND tech if that matters.
