78 pounds is a lot to go upstairs with when you have to carry it out in front of you because you can't put it over your shoulder and it won't hang onto you.

The trip across the lot might not be bad if you're allowed to pull it behind you, but otherwise you're talking about carrying this thing the length of a football field just to get to your vehicle. And then doing it again to store it in your apartment. I have a similar jack from HF and I would definitely be jacked if I had to carry it that distance every time I used it.

I'd probably stick with the screw jack, but maybe find a way to run it up with a cordless drill if I were lifting my vehicle very often.

yes I was, I have a 3 ton metal one also which is much heavier but its very solid. I have been jacking up cars for many years and even though it was very uncommon The metal jack would not have bent as easy as the aluminum to at least stop the car from bottoming out on the rotor, no damage thank God. I had a three ton jack stand I was just going to set up.

I recently got an aluminum jack from Walmart. Even carefully keeping to the capacity limits, it's still kind of a cheaply made product that struggles to life even my little mini cooper. I wanted the aluminum for portability vs. my Harbor Freight jacks, and it is definitely easier to move around. That said, I'm not sure it's worth it. It doesn't lift very high or very quicky.

I recommend sticking with a steel jack like this one or one from H.F.

Arcan jacks have been great to me. I use a jack a couple times per week and every weekend and used to go through one harbor freight jack every 2 years. I have 1 arcan steel (similar to this one but it's green/black) and their hybrid model. I think I'm coming up on ~8 years on the hybrid and ~5 years on the steel and they work perfectly. It's insane how much better these are for about the same price.

People love the pricing of the Harbor Freight jacks, and maybe it makes sense to buy from there if you don't use them much, but they can often be more expensive in the long run because you have to buy replacements more frequently.

If only they sold rebuild kits.

Torin has an ebay store. They don't have anything on Sale right now but they'll often run 20 to 30% off sales on select models.
