I am surprised no one mentioned the excellent customer support. I own both this and acasis TB3 enclosures. If you have any questions about your acasis, good luck. Acasis makes the best enclosures until this OWC one came out. OWC stands by its products and also has excellent customer support. That is worth a lot. If you are going to get a high end NVMe like the 4TB or 8TB SN850X, dont cheap out on the enclosure.
this is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for some company to build. I don't know why it isn't obvious to everyone else that you need big ass fins for 40Gb throughput.
It might be a bit of an outdated question, but would it support TRIM for mac mini m4, right out of the box? According to OWC's website, it will run as USB4 for any apple silicon macs. My understanding was that Thunderbolt, not USB, supported TRIM for mac. Is USB4 effectively a variation of Thunderbolt 3?
Mac user better pick a enclosure with Intel JHL 7440 chip. The newer chip ASM2464pd has compability issue with mac system which cause a much higher idle temp. I tested multiple enclosure and now picked one with JHL7440+JMS583 solution. It is not the fastest speed(Max reading speed is about 300mb/s slower than 2464, write about the same) but it is the most stable solution especially when you install the Mac system in the enclosure. Lower temp will cause less random issues. Fan is not needed for JHL7440chip. My temp never goes over 45c even under long time heavy load. Tested 2464 enclosure temp can goes over 60c when idle.

Which enclosure are u using with 7440+jms583? So for Mac mini m4 this owc 2464 is not good due to compatibility issues? I read that m4 with newer thunderbolt chips will be ok with 2464 chip.

I can confirm that the Hagibis mc40 aluminum enclosure with the ASM2464PD chipset gets the same 3.1-3.2 gbps speed as expected. All enclosures should have roughly the same speeds with the same chipset. Build quality for the hagibis is top notch. Using it with a Mac mini m4. It's a nice hand warmer 😉. I haven't bothered to check out the actual drive temp though. Unless I hear about people having nvme drive failures, I'll be blissfully ignorant. They provide two sets of heatsink pads...4 total. One goes on the drive (over the sticker I believe) and one goes on the controller. Both make good contact with the all aluminum case. It looks like others use the same case supplier too. Qwiizlab seems to be the same case at least. Not sure what these cost now, but I paid something like $56 for it.

These are available under a number of different names though with different cables included.

Thanks. I just dont want to plug this into my iMac M4 and have it fail to use TB3 by default
