I am surprised no one mentioned the excellent customer support. I own both this and acasis TB3 enclosures. If you have any questions about your acasis, good luck. Acasis makes the best enclosures until this OWC one came out. OWC stands by its products and also has excellent customer support. That is worth a lot. If you are going to get a high end NVMe like the 4TB or 8TB SN850X, dont cheap out on the enclosure.

Waiting on thunderbolt 5 enclosure.. it does get warm but temperature stays where it suppose be ..

Thanks for sharing. $55 is a good price if it works. I'm assuming this enclosure uses ASM2464PD? How long have you had it? Can you share screenshots of your actual transfer speeds for read/write? Temp and power consumption during busy read/writes, idle and sleep?
What's the advantage of buying something like this compared to the Crucial X9 Pro? Or Samsung T7?
Full USB4 interface speed and the ability to use your own pre-existing SSD, so a good way to put one to use if your upgrading internal SSD to something better.
The external pre-mades will get there eventually, not enough market demand and so it will roll out slower so they can sell the current speed devices, and then sell more later with the "faster" ones.

A solid choice, just keep in mind that USB4 is 40gigabits per second (perfect world, actually less with overhead) and your 990 Pro can do ~7500megabytes per second.
So while I think the 990 Pro is a solid choice, and I have 4 of the 4TB models installed in my desktop, using them in an external enclosure like this is a bit wasteful when you calculate your bottleneck.
7500 megabytes per second = 60 gigabits per second
In a perfect world only getting 40 is a loss of 1/3 of your performance.
In real life it will be nearly half.
Edit: just saw the post that this was referencing and indeed user reported ~3000MBps right on with what I was saying. So keep that in mind when choosing your SSD.
I can also verify that I get the full ~7500MBps on my 990 Pro(s) installed on a proper interface without bandwidth restrictions.

Received the OWC and ran BlackMagic for 30 mins connected to M4 Mac Mini. Recorded 3173 MB/s (write) and 3140 MB/s (read) speeds (edit: Samsung 990 Pro 4TB); no thermal throttling observed. Enclosure temp never got higher than 44C (111F), barely warm to the touch. Idle temp feels lower. After putting the Mini to sleep for an hour, the OWC enclosure feels cold and the front LED is also turned off.
This makes me feel a lot better about my order.
This enclosure checked all the boxes for me as far as speed and reliability, but the thermal idle issue that was brought up had me second guessing. If this is the case the idle issue isn't nearly as concerning as I thought it was.

Normally, I would've gone with a slower and cheaper drive but the 4TB 990 Pro was on sale for $168 (with a targeted discount code).
Available on Amazon right now for $98.88. Might be a tad cheaper than the BF sale if you had to pay shipping with OWC and get free shipping with Amazon. OWC has it for the same $98.88 and it appears with no shipping charge.
