This is a direct discount. Bill credit comes into picture in trade in.

Hmmm this is actually not a bad deal, they're including a $30 Unlimited line for 12 months free to existing customers which is worth $15-25 a month. I'll be paying around $250 ($600 + $61 tax - $410 trade) to upgrade from a P8P to P9P XL.

Last year I did this exact deal to upgrade from a P7P Pro to P8P Pro and that didn't include the free year unlimited plan, and they waived the $20 activation fee this time around.

Also was able to get them to refund the entire trade-in amount to credit card through chat, will try again this time.

I'm an existing spectrum customer with a P8 Pro. How did you get 12 months free Unlimited line? (in store? calling? chat?) Was it all part of a single interaction?

If I can pull that off, I'll definitely upgrade.

edit: I just called spectrum mobile and was told I would only be eligible for 12 months free Unlimited line for a new line of service (unfortunately, not as an existing customer). maybe the promotion is tied to individual accounts and varies by account? Any other suggestions based on your experience?

Sorry I should've specified existing Spectrum internet customer. The free 12 month Unlimited and waived activation auto-applied during checkout, all I did was login to my Spectrum internet account. To get the free line, you can port in another number or start a new number, but it'll still be the 2nd line that's free, not your current line. But since I not a current Spectrum Mobile customer, apparently they're letting me port in a line for free.

But last year didn't include the free 12 month even for new mobile lines, I ported in for that deal, then ported back out after receiving the trade-in refund.

Gotcha... that makes sense. I'm existing customer with both internet & mobile (spectrum), so probably no dice for me with 12 months free mobile line (unless I added a 2nd line, which I have no need for).

I just thought of something, can you quickly port out of Spectrum Mobile to a cheap nvmo like Tello then sign up for the 12 months free Unlimited by porting back in? Worth a shot Wink

you call customer support to put you on a promo deal even new customer deals if they tell you getting the best deal now hang up and try again with a different agent
if that fails again try again and tell them i want to talk to "retention" they have the power to give you all kinds of deals to keep you as a customer

or just call "retention" they can give out all sorts of deals including new customer deals to existing customer to keep you as a customer
a regular agent will just bs you with "you got the best deal now" not all of them but a lot of them will worth a shot with normal agent if not then try "retention"

Talking to "retention" is a waste of time. I have a friend who work for spectrum "retention" dept. They have fight between new acct team and "retention" team all the time. Basically, Spectrum rather have a "new" acct so they can have a big number of new acct to show to investor than have a big number of old acct. What all this mean? Mean "retention" dept can only advise you to close the existing acct, wait 24hrs and sign up as a new customer to get the 12 months deals. "Retention dept" CANT GIVE YOU SQUASH !!!
