16GB RAM is pretty normal in a high-end gaming laptop at this price plus it's easily upgradeable.
You're getting one of the best AMD chips, a great screen, 4070 and superior build quality.

This model has the better screen resolution. The one from Walmart is standard HD 1920 x 1080
Worth the extra $100, imo

I just bought a similar model at Walmart... Is there a huge difference between these two (7940 chip vs 7945)? Is this model and its extra cores worth the extra hundred to cancel at Walmart? Or is the difference in performance and price fairly negligible?

Capacity is fine it's just slow.

But these are great laptops if one doesn't mind a little chonk.

Are gaming laptops like this one generally always upgradeable RAM wise without the soldered on RAM?

thanks and repped

There's not really a hard-and-fast rule for that and it mainly depends on the manufacturer.
That being said, generally, thin and light and especially 14" gaming laptops tend to have the RAM soldered. 16" laptops such as Zephyrus G16 with the OLED display has soldered RAM but it's brother G16 without the OLED display has upgradeable RAM. When you keep the RAM soldered you can have it running at the highest of speeds, for example removable DDR5 is usually clocked at 4800-5600 MHz, whereas soldered LPDDR5x can have it at 6400 MHz or above.

Earlier generations of ASUS had one of the sticks soldered but my last 2 of these have very easily accessible slots. I've replaced both with 32g and added an additional SSD.

Does anyone know how bright the screen is in terms of nits? Or the part number of the display panel they used?
On the official website it says "Support Dolby Vision HDR : Yes"
but no detailed spec.

Update: seems to be CSOT MNH301CA3-1, which is about ~350 cd/m2

I just do not know. The only thing i dislike is the RTX 4070 (8GB) 8 gig might not be enough. I do not game but when I do, it will be on my desktop. I am just use to work stations and if i want to play a game, I want it to be capable. To me 8 gigs is not future proof. My alienware mx18r2 is older than 10 years and my m17 is over 15 years and they still going strong, just outdated and can not find a battery for them. Just do not want to spend over 4k again for a laptop, is the reason I am interested in this. Its AMD is what i want and It has a lot of cores where I want and need multitasking power.

Or should I be looking at this
ASUS ROG Strix G18 18" Gaming Laptop - 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX - GeForce RTX 4060 - 2560 x 1600 240Hz - Windows 11 - 32GB RAM
  • Intel Core i9-14900HX (24-Core) Processor 2.2 Ghz
  • 18" 2.5K (2560 x 1600) WQXGA 240Hz 500-Nits HDR ROG Nebula IPS Display
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, 8GB DDR6, 140W
  • 32GB (2x 16GB) DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM
Has 18" screen (I wanted). Do not like intel but has 24 cores (better for multitasking) and has double the ram sadly both have 8gig gpu
