I was interested in a new productivity machine using the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, but gosh, as I started pricing out parts to build it, I was getting into the $1,100-1,200 range without even accounting for certain parts I already had on hand like an NVME SSD for booting. Uggh. So I started looking around and found that HP has its Victus 15L Desktop for offer with a pretty beefy Intel Core i7-14700F CPU. If you minimize the RAM and SSD components and upgrade the video card, you can get a pretty powerful machine for $819 (plus tax). If you buy it on your Chase credit card, there is a $50 cashback on $250 purchase that is valid for the next two days.
To do this, start at Chase to activate the $50 cashback on $250, then go to the HP website search for "Victus by HP 15L Gaming Desktop TG02-2000t". You can also go there directly with this link:
https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp...-8s0b5av-1
Once there, you should see an initial base price of $499.99. Click the "CUSTOMIZE & BUY" button, and:
1. upgrade the CPU to the 14700F (+$180)
2. upgrade the video card to the RTX 4060 (+$130)
3. upgrade the wifi card to the Realtek RTL8852BE (+$9)
You should end up with a total of $818.99 and the following configuration:
- Windows 11 Home
- Intel® Core™ i7-14700F (up to 5.4 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 33 MB L3 cache, 20 cores, 28 threads)
- Mica silver
- 1-year limited hardware warranty support
- 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (2 x 8 GB)
- 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
- No HDD
- NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060 (8 GB GDDR6X dedicated)
- Front Bezel Mica Silver Metal with 350 W 80 Plus Gold certified power supply
- Realtek RTL8852BE Wi-Fi 6 (2x2) and Bluetooth®️ 5.3 compatible combo (supporting gigabit data rate)
- No Additional Office Software
- Security Software Trial
- No Included Keyboard
Yeah, you could also upgrade from 16GB-->32GB of RAM for +$60, and from a 256GB SSD to a 512GB or 1TB one for +$30 and +$80, respectively, but it is cheaper to upgrade those yourself.
Here's a cpubenchmark comparison between the 9700X and 14700F--single thread is better for the Ryzen, but the overall cpu benchmark favors the 14700F.

On the shipping manifest, it mentions "Windows 11 Advanced", but I had ordered the "Home" version. I suspect that is just a mislabeling on their part and indeed, that I will probably receive the "Home" version.
