Odd configuration considering even MS doesn't sell this Snapdragon X Plus config with 1TB SSD. Only the X Elite has 1TB option.

Save $300 and get the 512GB version of this with keyboard but no pen for $999 at BestBuy.

I think the SSD is upgradeable through a trap door on the back so start cheap with 512GB and can upgrade up to 2TB much cheaper than MS.

OP -- Suggestion...remove "Laptop" from the deal title. The Surface Pro does not use the word "Laptop" as there is actually a Surface Laptop so it is confusing.

Keep in mind that upgrading with a bare SSD will cause overheating and random restarts. The Microsoft SSDs come in a housing that uses the underside as a heatsink into the chassis.

Remember folks, if you need full application compatibility, these snapdragon laptops aren't there yet. Would be better to get an AMD or Intel laptop.

Yep. This video shows the whole process including which Heatsink kit to buy:

That won't work, don't believe everything you see on YouTube. The memory chips are on the top of the SSD circuit board. Even if it touches the SSD door, it's not an effective heatsink. Microsoft SSDs have a case that completely encloses the SSD and heatsinks it on the bottom of the SSD enclosure into the body of the tablet. There's even a "roughed up" area on the tablet chassis to ensure a good mating surface for the bottom of the SSD enclosure. If you really want to do it correctly, buy a real Microsoft SSD cheap off of eBay, like a 128GB that nobody wants, and disassemble it to insert your new SSD into.

I disagree to the extent that the chips on the MS SSD are on the topside facing the trap door also, not the bottom and while their heatsink (or is it an RF shield) does wrap around the entire SSD module, it's very thin on the sides so getting the heat from the top side to the underneath side is a stretch. MANY laptop and desktop makers put a strip of thermal tape UNDER a SSD stick (the blank board side) to dissipate the heat and without any heatsink. Also, the trap door seems to have a similar rough surface to it, to also act as a heatsink. Put some thermal tape on the bottom of your 2TB SSD and it will contact the area you are concerned with.

Also, these 2230 SSD's are not blazing fast (or hot). Under most normal circumstances, the heatsink in the YT video is perfectly fine for dissipating heat away, enough to keep it from throttling.

Personally, I don't own one nor do I care that much, but I was just offering a money-saving option for people (which I would guess many people DO replace the SSD with a 3rd party SSD without issue).
