Oh the wait....and if that pricing is true, they'll be scooped up...
If the MSRP is $500, you can expect them to be significantly more expensive than that by the time they reach the shelves, even before scalpers get involved.
Needs to be under $700 to get my money based on leaked reports for incoming 8800 XT
8800 said to perform between 7900 XT and XTX, but only cost $500-$600
With 20 less compute units compared to the 7900 XT, and 36 fewer than the XTX, they'll have to pull some real magic to hit that performance target you're claiming, especially at only $500-600. I'd expect something more akin to 7800 xt - 7900 gre performance at $600, with possibly better ray tracing support.

AMD selling its new cards at that price range seems unlikely with how much Nvidia is going to be charging. I have to believe eventually people will realize Ray Tracing is the emperors new clothes. When reviewers put side by side images up with ray tracing on or off, I can barely notice a difference. To be honest I'm not sure I can notice one at all and thats still frames, l know I cant notice when I'm running around killing stuff. I have a 3070 TI and I have turned it on in games and the only thing I notice is the performance drop. $887 for a video card after taxes is by no means a good deal, but its likely going to be the best price for this level of card for a long time. If I'm wrong, Ill probably know in time to return it, with the holiday return policy , I have until Jan 31st. Much after that I wont care about the price difference, as I got my card now and will get hundred of hours out of it with POE 2 alone over the next couple of months.
I have this card and it started having high hot spot temps after a month. Asrock ghosted me when I reached out. I recommend going with a different card from a different brand.

As a 4090 owner, RT is still a feature that I use on literally 2 games. Virtually every game runs like crap with RT on when gaming at 4K. While DLSS is still superior, recent iterations of FSR are closing the gap from an image quality standpoint and are perfectly acceptable. Frame gen is nice for games where input lag isnt an issue, like Microsoft Flight Simulator, but not for competitive pvp games or shooters.
If you think the extra $200 is worth it for a card that has only meh RT performance that rapidly enters unplayable territory at 4k...go for it. If you care about the other 99% of games that dont use RT, the 7900XTX is better performance per dollar spent than a 4080 as its raw performance cannot be ignored. You also will be able to likely use the card longer than a 4080 due to not being bottlenecked by the miserly amount of VRAM that is inherent in Nvidia cards that dont end in 90.
Right now, the XTX is a better deal, if you can find a 4080 around the same price, that changes the conversation.
