Any thoughts on how good this VPN is compared to the Nord deal?
The fact that there's scarce details about the AVG service, even on their website, raises a red flag in my mind. Nothing about logging or what kind of encryption they use, only that it's "military grade" and 256-bit, which tells you basically nothing. No details on if there are bandwidth restrictions, and only 50 servers. Seems like they're marketing it primarily as a casual service you may turn on to watch Netflix in another country or something like that, not something you'd leave running all the time. I'm also always suspect of any kind of "cleaner" app. The best you can generally hope for is they're worthless, but more often than not, they'll cause problems rather than prevent or fix them. I get companies like AVG/Avast have to get a little more creative now that Microsoft has bundled an AV program with Windows. Even if it's fairly shitty, it's free and already there, so why pay for something else?
Without even having looked at the Nord deal, I can pretty confidently say it would be a better VPN. That or the recent Windscribe deal. No experience with Nord, but have been using Windscribe for several years and am pretty happy.
I got this and am pretty happy with it. I usually don't like extras such as the cleaning part but this actually lets you have a preview of what it would be removed beforehand and enables you to let certain things pass through (such as email website cookies so you don't have to log back in after every clean).
As far as the VPN goes I just assume they have a reputation as a company to protect. As well as the resources from being a household name for years to actually make a good one.
