What are the downsides to import models can I even put it in English lol
most, if not all import camera can put menu in english.
but like the gray market watches, part of you payment goes into dealers, distributors and warranty department. you are not going to got those support if anything goes wrong (but i never had a electronic stuff goes wrong on me).
having said that, you can just go to japan and buy it there, I think i was quoted something like 30% off MSRP (compare to how much i would pay here) if you opt out the warranty or something.
