This is a great deal if you need it...i'd recommend this washer even over more expensive models. It's a proven basic Whirlpool design that has been used for probably 15+ years, and it still has an agitator and cleans really well. (They are also a dime a dozen used on Marketplace as they are a popular 'house flipper' model).

Check FB Marketplace. These kinds of washers go for $50 used. If you need washer and dryer, $150 or less for both.

Have these in our rental units. Not a single failure so far. Based on the old whirlpool design. Parts are cheap and plentiful and easy to replace. While it has dials, it does have a control board. But if that fries you can buy them used online for $115'ish. Highly recommend getting this. Note is on the smallerish side for today's standards. And I recommend setting it to bulky items setting which will give you the type of agitation behavior you may be used to with an older washer. Where it fills up the entire tub then starts agitation. The normal cycle will add water, agitate, add water, agitate, etc. That's how people get ripped clothing as it tries to shift dry clothes around to get it to settle.

Almost ordered but it's not HE? I haven't seen a non HE unit in a long time
FYI, HE is not a real efficiency standard. It was originally intended for detergents that are formulated for washers that use less water than conventional washers.
If you are looking for a water and electricity efficient machine, look for an Energy Star certified appliance. https://www.energystar.gov/produc...rs/results
This washer isn't Energy Star certified if water efficiency is an important consideration factor.

Quality good?
If relevant, this is made by Whirlpool and is one of the few washers today that are still built in the USA

It's a no frills whirlpool. Had a very similar Whirlpool made for Kenmore and got 18 years out of it. I may just replace my current washing machine with one!

We really liked ours. It just started making motor noises. We bought it in 2006 for reference. More than likely will buy again because it worked so well, cleaned and was pretty basic for a small family needs.

Over a GE? Not by a longshot for me. Samsung I agree with, but I've had sets of GEs that last longer and perform better than Amaya's. I guess it's YMMV

I was honestly wondering what the alternative was. Everything I've come up with seems to start and end with "..burn the clothes to ash".

Actually maybe water pressure powered? Just a squirrel in a bit metal box w/ a hose?

These old-school dial washers tend to outlast washers twice as expensive.

So it has a lid lock, most likely a belt drive, not direct drive?

Are Samsungs that bad? What about Whirlpool, any idea how it compares to GE washers?
