The DiscoverIt card finally has value this quarter for those that also have Target and Prime 5% cards. (Amazon & Target are Q4 5% categories.)
Edit: I did a chat on discover.com and asked if I could get a retention offer since I was considering cancelling and immediately got offered a bonus 3% extra Cashback for three months effective the next day. Worth a shot to get 8% CB with your Discover card instead of 5!
So a purchaee of $100 apple gift card + $20 of other shit wont give me a check mark on the spend $120 3x offer?
I've found Target counts Apple gift cards toward the "shop Y times with your Circle card on qualifying purchases of $X or more to earn a $Z in Circle rewards" but not the "$Z off when you spend $X" single-time offer. Target's own gift cards count toward neither.
This will not work for target circle bonuses. Qualifying purchases exclude purchases that would not otherwise earn rewards and gift cards do not earn rewards. I like the spirit though!

Target gift cards do not earn rewards and will not count toward a Circle bonus. Apple GC and other third party gift cards (not Visa/MC) do earn the 5% reward and have counted toward the bonus.
Edit: run me through the math folks. If we use our red card for this, will we get +5%?
Buying a $500 gift card would get 15% = $75 total savings?
Nah, the extra 5% off perk with Red Card does not work with the purchase of Target brand gift cards.
Oh and if it did it would be 14.5% off, not 15% off. The reason for this is because the extra 5% off would be calculated separately AFTER the 10% off promo.

I'm in again with Discover. I'll take my 14.5% discounted gift cards and use those stacked with more discounts later during the year. End up usually sitting around 20-30% off or more on general items.
We bought 10 GCs last year, gave out 7, 2 out the three left had empty balance. Brought to the store and they said there was a problem in the system as many people were complaining, and told us to call corporation. Called customer service and were told to go to store. Gave up after multiple back and forth attempts. The worst thing was we didn't even know how many out of the seven that we gave out had money. Never again.

Better to buy the giftcards just for your own use throughout the year, and give people cash as gifts -that way they can choose where the money gets spent. I have the cashier put $50 each on 10 giftcards, number them, and use them in order, wrapping the most recent receipt around the card so I know how much should be left on it. When a card is empty, I mark it as empty and hold onto all cards until I've used them all. I've never had a problem, but if value disappeared from a card, I'd try disputing the amount with my credit card as Target wouldn't have delivered the product that was promised.
If you use the app, there might be a way to easily load them to the app for in-store use. I refuse to use apps however; too many security and privacy issues.

Does anyone know: if you buy the cards online with AmEx Blue Cash everyday card, do you get the 3% for online purchases? Is it processed as an online purchase?

$90 for $100 GC
5% of 90 is $4.50
$14.50 total savings per $100
