The DiscoverIt card finally has value this quarter for those that also have Target and Prime 5% cards. (Amazon & Target are Q4 5% categories.)
Edit: I did a chat on discover.com and asked if I could get a retention offer since I was considering cancelling and immediately got offered a bonus 3% extra Cashback for three months effective the next day. Worth a shot to get 8% CB with your Discover card instead of 5!
10% is the highest discount i have seen for target GC. I would say it's not accurate that ppl think they're getting 15% discount by combining their credit card cashback. When you're making actual purchase, GC payments do not earn cc cashback, the 5% with whatever cc promo is you front loaning yourself. 10% is all you're getting.
Been doing this as long as they offered it and always received 5% CB either from Discover or Paypal (via Chase CC). I see your point about using the GC later and not getting any discount, etc on it if you have a RedCard. One way I've avoided that was giving the Target GCs (physical) as gifts for birthdays, baby showers, etc.

The stackable 5% is only for cards with an elevated bonus for this quarter: Discover It (5% back with Target) and Chase Freedom (5% with Paypal)

While true, the extra 5% is not your additional saving. When using GC for payment, you'll lose out the cashback you would have earned had you used your own cc or target red card.

It is additional savings because you're saving 5% on the gift card which is essentially like buying whatever item you were going to buy with the 5% red card or whatever card you would use to pay. So while technically you're not actually buying with a cc and not getting the CB on the actual purchase, you already got that CB when buying the gift cards.

i think that's a interesting way of doing math. assuming what you said is logically reasonable, then it would be buy GC at 15% discount that comes with 5% penalty fee. lol! It's no different than calling extra paycheck on the 15th (due to accounting error) as a bonus knowingly there won't be a payment on the 30th. You can buy any gift card on 5% discount with chase-paypal this quarter, it's a normal cc cashback, not a discount. i guess we all have different opinion on how it works, and how math works.
