I had a different experience. $79 for a ready to run package is a great deal for those looking for a beater with young kids or just looking for fun. Way better than any big box store offering. I bought mine about 2-3 years ago for the same price, with 2 kids beating on it since then. I have had to put outdrive cups on it once a year. That's on grass/dirt driving, on pavement I bet it would eat up more, with more force applied to them (let off the throttle when in the air, and easy on the burnouts and wheelies πŸ˜…ΒΈ').

Thanks, OP, my kids have destroyed a bunch of big box rcs β€” most of which I did not purchase, but got bought while I was waiting on a good entry grade deal for a model with replaceable parts (hoping maybe I can 3D print most replacements).

Quick search seems to indicate this (specifically the 2wd $79.99 buy) is $20 lower than prior similar deals, so for me, this is the one.

I picked this up when it was on sale last time. The rear wheel drive makes it a bit difficult to drive for beginners, but after some practice it's loads of fun. The included battery takes very long to charge however. Any good deals on batteries for this thing?

Perfect Christmas present for the kids in your family. Definitely pickup a lipo 2s battery off Amazon, it will blow away the battery that comes with this truck.

Thank you. I'm still a bit of a laymen when it comes to RC. We also own a Typhon Grom with a 2s LiPo battery. What will it take to get a LiPo battery to work with this Granite Mega?

Is a 2s LiPo plug and play with this Granite out of box?

I bought one of these 2 years ago to just tinker with at the beach or backyard. It suffered from the green light of death???. and was never able to repair it or figure out what it was. I did run across a post that said it was the control board? Ans sold it for parts immediately. Other than that, it was a real fun experience. Thinking about this. Last time I paid 100.00. So 20.00 cheaper, verified.

Is this good for Xmas for a 14 yo that has only ever used box box toy rc cars?

Primarily grass, dirt, and road terrain.

Yes and no. You shouldn't have to do anything to get a 2s lipo to work with it, however I believe this model has what's called "jumpers" that you *should* change the setting from NIMH to lipo, otherwise you run the risk of taking a lipo battery below it's LV (low voltage cutoff), and then the charger will not detect it to recharge. It's really easy to change the jumpers, you just pull one pin out of a slot and stick it in the other slot. It should have instructions on how to do this in the manual.

There are also adapters you can give so you can use the same batteries in Traxxas and Arrma vehicles/chargers:

At this price point these are decent deals. The differential cups are the weak points so be prepared to replace those and it looks like the ESCs could also be an issue.

If you know you will stick with RC for a bit I highly recommend getting a better charger so that you can charge more than 1 battery at faster rates and your charger will set your batteries to storage voltage. Treat the batteries well and they should last for years. Make sure whatever charger you get that you have the correct connectors to charge your batteries.

As far as batteries, you can buy cheaper batteries on Amazon (like Zees or Goldbat but do your own research) but you will either need to solder together a battery connector convertor or buy one.

Make sure to buy a 7.4v 2s battery that has an ic3/ec3 plug on the battery. On the car itself, you may have to move one bumper position in order to use a lipo battery in lieu of the included battery. Very simple adjustment.

From a quick check this appears to be compatible: Zeee 2S Lipo Battery 6500mAh 120C 7.4V Hard Case Battery with EC3 Connector for RC Vehicles RC Car Truck Truggy 1/10 Scale Racing Models(2 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BYNS497X
